It all seems to be about moving forward this weekend, which I guess is appropriate as I have also been moving house. Not into a permanent home, but I have moved to the town where I intend to live long term. That’s not what this Square is about today however. Today I am in the archives, taking you back over a decade to the 2012 Paralympics. Our seats were up in the gods, but we still got a great view of the events in the stadium and we were in the shade. A huge bonus when sitting outside in the late summer for a few hours!

The women’s long jump took place between August 31 to September 7, and if I recall correctly we were there Sunday 2nd. Not that there is just one competition for the women, there were in fact 6 long jump finals over the 8 day period incorporating 9 classifications. Some of the long jumping took place at the same time at other athletic events, and so we were constantly looking at different parts of the stadium to see what was going on. The only exception was when blind and visually impaired athletics jumped. Some of these extraordinary athletes required total silence in the stadium so that they could hear their assistants. Their assistant’s voice or clapping helped ensure they ran within the lines and didn’t overstep the board. Assistants usually stood to one side, but this one stood at the end of the run and leapt out of the way at the very last moment. An amazing partnership.

My son and daughter-in-law had tickets to some Paralympic events and so enjoyed these very special events. I hope your (second but not last!) move went OK and that the third and final one will be soon! Here’s my post for today:https://margaret21.com/2024/05/05/the-woodland-awakens/

A lovely post Becky. Good on you for surviving the “nose-bleed” seats x

Thank you so much. It has felt like home every time I have arrived here since my very first proper stay last year. So now feels very special to think although the current accommodation is temporary I won’t be leaving again

Best wishes to you Becky for this next stage of life. I hope it all goes well. We went to a few events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast, and even with able-bodied athletes it was fantastic. The determination of those with a disability is incredible and sets a high standard for the rest of us. Great depiction of “moving forward”.

I’m not sure if my pingbacks are working. I know they did the first two days but they don’t seem to be there yesterday or the day before. 😦

ah they are it is just all pingbacks have to be approved, just so I make sure I don’t miss anyone. And my move has delayed me checking in – you’ll find them all appearing now 🙂

Oh, of course. That makes perfect sense. I’m a bit wary what with WordPress’s finicky behaviour at times. Thanks. 🙂

I find it very hard to imagine running unsighted. The level of trust between those two is off the scale. Such courage and determination, Becky! An extraordinary shared memory. I was watching the sunrise on our roof this morning and wondered if you might be watching the sun come up on your new home. Moving is exhausting and it will take a while till you know where eveything lives, but I hope you’ll enjoy your new home.

Exactly my thoughts, I was awestruck watching them
And yes very weird being in yet another place, but it is a really lovely apartment and at least I know the town well. Hopefully the final move will follow soon
