Involves a Nikon, a cat, extended visits to Portugal, being the Engagement Director (volunteer) for Winchester Heritage Open Days, occasional travels and most importantly my life as B is about enjoying life with my fabulous husband, family and friends.

SelfieThis blog’s main purpose is to act as host to the quarterly daily blogging challenge called SQUARES.

A photography challenge which is rapidly growing into a worldwide square movement. Quite extraordinary and such fun! Thank you to everyone who has taken part to date.

I also occasionally use the blog to share musings and other photographs, but it isn’t my main creative outlay. That’s my Portuguese blog!

Sometimes life does take over and you may find there will be days or even weeks of pauses on both blogs, especially as I am also manage multiple twitter and instagram accounts. Sometimes I do just have to turn off the digital world! So please bear with me if there is a pause.

By the way whilst I am happy for everyone to link their blog posts to my posts and/or share the links via social media, if you want to use any of my photographs then contact me first using the form above. This website and its content is copyright of Life of B – © BeckyB of Winchester. 1. Thank you so very much. And do hope you can join us. It is so much fun and there are usually 20 to 30 fellow ‘squares’ taking part each month, with evening more popping in for a visit.

  1. I found your blog through Cee. My mom died at 98 in 2006 and my dad at 91 in 2009. For ten years, my life was basically on hold. I lived close by, so I could cook for them, take them to all their appointments, and take them on outings frequently. To navigate the world of older old age is like entering a strange new planet without a map or compass. I can understand your journey with your mom and dad in dementia; it happens in slow stages. ( I never realized that). Now it sounds like you are onto a new phase in life.

  3. Hi Becky! I found you through your Portuguese site.
It is amazing that you manage to do so many different & exciting things, and still cared for your parents. Living with both parents with dementia, I can only imagine, must have been extremely challenging.
Thank you for taking the time to share you experiences through both your blogs!

  4. HI Becky, I found your blog through Roda’s site and the lovely flower pictures she was highlighting. I am 50 now and working through the midlife crisis section of life, our parents are entering their 70s and so far, so good! Your story has inspired me and your strength you have shown as you navigate that challenge is impressive, to say the least! Hope all is well with you and stay strong 🙂

    1. Hi again . . . . I also live about an hour from Castle Cary! I’m in the east but thinking of heading west.
And yes the dementia journey is a challenging one. So pleased she’s in a good home, we’ve found one for my dad so as and when my mum is ready he will be moving there. Thanks for the challenge, off to investigate 🙂

  6. Thank you for the visit and the kind words about my bird blog. I am pleased to have ‘found’ you, as well, and am going to try my hand at the Colour Your World. I am in my Surreal Seventies and life whirls by so quickly that I often fail to ‘keep up’ but I’ll do my best. I love both your blogs, but will follow this one, as it gives me a conduit to t’other one.

  8. I am another forty-something and so am delighted to meet you! I look forward to following both of your blogs (I love photography too) and to learning more about you. Also, I am interested in hearing about your journey with your parents’ struggle with their dementia. I studied to be a hospice chaplain and my mother-in-law had Alzheimer’s, so I am somewhat familiar with the painful issues you are dealing with. Not an easy road, for sure.

    1. Hello and welcome . . . . . Being a 40 something is great me thinks!

You are right it is not an easy road, and supporting from afar helps in terms of perspective for me but I know is not brilliant for them. I’ve been having a look at your lovely blog, and I look forward to getting to know you. I can already see I am going to value your reflections on life.

  9. Hi Becky,

Our cat has a nick name of Stinky since he is semi wild and has not been emasculated. He goes walk about maybe once a year. The last time he disappeared for about a week or ten days. But he returns in reasonable shape except for a few claw marks from the other cats.

    Cheers,Bill

  10. Winchester as in England and not Ky as I am used to?

Loverly cat. Ours has gone walk about while courting the locals. Showed up after five nights away, ate some food , And was off again!

    Cheers, Bill

    1. Yes sorry probably should have said that although if I had added Hampshire as would have been my first thought that wouldn’t have helped much either! There are so many Winchesters around the world, pretty sure my city is the first one though 😉
Fortunately my cat is not that much of a wanderer – does yours go walkabout lots?
