Some people seemed to get all sunshine, and some all shadow
Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

Only three days left to Square your dark shapes, silhouettes and reflective shadows. Or if you prefer an illusory image, a remnant of a thing, an imitation, an inseparable companion or partial light. It was the contrast between the buildings in full sun and those in shade which caught my eye here in Speicherstadt; Hamburg’s historic docks. I’ll tell you more about the docks next month, for now though why not ShadowBox with me and my incredible Squares gang.
Hard to choose 🙂

hee hee, yes suspect most of us will go one way in summer and the other in winter

I love it Becky. Taken at just the right time of day. Accident or planned adventure for the photo?

complete accident, I had no idea where I was going

Always find the unexpected and unusual. Although one time I ended up in a “rough” part of Paris where I felt I was being watched all the time. Didn’t feel 100% safe but not scared

ah yes the downside is that can happen

we appreciated the shade as it was hot day, but not sure how I’d feel about this contrast in the winter months!

Too far north for me – or not north enough. I haven’t been to Hamburg (yet). To be honest, the whole north of Germany is mostly undiscovered country to me. Thanks for the glance.
Here is my shadow or rather two of the day: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2025/11/28/the-meadow/

My first time there and I was delighted by it. Really lovely city, well worth stopping off on your route further north!

I like that – my guess was somewhere in the Netherlands before I read your text. Some of the pretty canal towns can have gritty bits too.

I do love a handsome industrial building. But no time for that. I have books to read, so you’ll have to share today: https://margaret21.com/2025/11/28/novellas-in-november/

Oooh books, fab as I’ve just joined a bookclub!

Fab! I hope it’s one that actually discusses the book, as mine does. Some give the book a cursory 10 minutes before moving on to gossip and wine (we do the wine though).

Shadow and light, leading lines, history. Very impressive. I am still at the lakeside: https://sillarit.com/2025/11/28/gloomy-yet-vibrant-autumn-reflections/

We haven’t been to Hamburg but people we know who have say it’s a great city to visit. Definitely on our list so I’ll be interested to read more next month.

We absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to show you more

I’d be so grumpy if I was on the shady side! But then again, it would be cooler to work in. Looking on the bright side, Becky xx
