This one is out of my Portuguese archives. The sculptures or shadow shapes can be found in a shaded square in the back streets of Olhão.

They are part of an unusual Portuguese/Moorish legend. Manuel, a young fisherman was playing with his friends when an unknown boy asked if he could join them. The group agreed, and the boy attempted to play. However he just didn’t get the game and the others soon told him that. In response he suggested to Manuel that they went and played elsewhere. Despite not knowing the boy Manuel agreed, and was taken to a hidden place full of treasures. So many treasures that Manuel was overcome. His new friend took him home, but invoked a spell so that no one else, apart from Manuel, could see him. It would appear this caused Manuel to behave strangely because his mother took him to confession. After Manuel talked to the priest the spell was lifted and his new friend disappeared!
Very odd, and that’s not the only strange tale to be found in sculpture form in the back streets of Olhão but you will have to visit my original post on my Portuguese blog to discover those.
Alternatively why not join in with the Shadows of Squares. There is plenty of treasure to be found; you can even double dip with other challenges as I have today by marking the spot at Six Word Saturday. The only rule is to stay square with your November Shadows!
I do like what I call shadow art. I’ve got some, too.

That story of the boys and the treasure is pretty interesting. Must have been important enough that the sculptures were created.
Here’s mine for today:

that’s so true – have me wondering now if the tales are part of national or just local culture

It makes me wonder what music they are hearing. They look as thought they are dancing apart from the one at the back who clearly has ‘ump on.

of you have a much better imagination than me – I just presumed they were playing football when I first saw them!

I’m sure they are, given the original story, but in my story they are dancing!

A strange legend and rather haunting-looking sculptures, I thought.
