Couldn’t resist capturing this swan at the end of the aqueduct. It is a third of the way between the Union Canal and the Forth and Clyde Canal in Scotland. In the background you can just about see the top of the Falkirk Wheel, which takes you down to the Forth and Clyde Canal. The wheel is the world’s only rotating boat lift; raising boats by 24 metres (79 ft) to this stretch of water. The Union Canal is still 11 metres (36 ft) higher than here. To get there from this point boats must pass through a pair of locks.

You can square daily, weekly, at weekends or just once for Shadows of Squares this month. The frequency is whatever suits you and your blog. Just remember to stay square with your November Shadows!
That’s a great capture. Such a soft light and shadow.
I went with the obvious today.

Lovely photo Becky. Such a calm feeling to it. I’d never heard of the Falkirk Wheel. Sounds fascinating. Here’s mine today: https://grahamsisland.com/2025/11/06/huli-chicken/

it’s an incredible piece of engineering. Boats do half a circle to go up or down, or can go completely round!

I watched a video of it in action. It’s awesome!
