Fortunately I am talking about Squares and not my finances! Squares is returning on Tuesday 1st July, and I am hoping you are going to have fun with theme as it is not just about colour. July will be our chance to paint the town, aka our blogs, red!

Queen Mary 2’s Red Funnel

The theme for July squares is ‘‘Simply Red‘ and the one rule as always is that your main photograph must be square. If colour is not your thing, then don’t worry why not play around with some red idioms such as;

  • A red rag to a bull – means provocation but for squares perhaps you could photograph a warning sign, or a moment of danger
  • As red as a beetroot – means embarrassed but for the content of your squares I am also thinking hot or excited
  • Paint the town red– means having a very good time but for squares I am thinking flamboyance!
  • Red herring – something that is deliberately misleading, so for squares I was thinking perhaps an illusion
  • Red letter day– is a memorable day or experience, so I know everyone will have at least one photograph that captures this. Today’s announcement square was definitely a red letter experience.
  • Roll out the red carpet – or why not give your blog the red carpet treatment in July by sharing your favourite images and perhaps a little bit of glamour

Squares is a daily challenge, so your photographs can be from the archives or brand new. If daily is too difficult, then feel free to post every other day, weekly or even just once in July. Don’t forget though to keep your photo square, and to pingback with #SimplyRed! See you on July 1st.

  11. This will be perfect! Every day on our Antarctic trip was a red letter day and every time we thought it couldn’t get better it did! Also, our ship was red, white and blue and we saw birds with red beaks, red legs, red breasts and even penguins with red eyes. I’m sure I’ll be able to work a post every day around the theme. How exciting. 🙂

  20. Red head, keep the red flag flying, reds under the bed! I have a lot of red images but unfortunately, from this point of view, they are mostly pillar boxes and doors so not good for squaring. I’m also on a real roll filling in gaps at the moment – would you believe I have posts scheduled as far as July! So I might sit this one out. But then I always say that and get tempted into a few pop-up appearances, so we’ll see.

        26. Surely you won’t be able to resist joining in a little bit?! Do what I sometimes do and post just once but with plenty of squares – that way it won’t mess up your planned schedule AND you’ll be able to participate in the fun 😀
