In 2021 I had this mad but also brilliant idea to create a Who’s Who of Squarers. It took me about a month to create, and it was published in four parts;

  1. Photographers who joined us in 2020 with Light, Top, Perspectives and Kinda
  2. The bloggers who found squares in 2019 and had fun with Blue, Spiky and Lines
  3. New squarers of 2018 inspired by themes of Pink, Circles/Squares, Roofs and Time
  4. And the Square Gang of 2017 when we began with Flowers and Sky

The Who’s Who was possible because I had kept a logbook to produce the galleries. The logbook recorded who had joined us when and who had contributed every month since. I so enjoyed creating these retrospectives that I fully intended to produced one for 2021, but sadly events in 2022 overtook me. Last week I suddenly remembered my plans and thought ooh I will create it now, and maybe also one for 2022. Afterall I had been meticulous with my Squares logbook, it wouldn’t take much effort. So here it is, beginning with a pictorial reminder of one of our 2021 themes; can you remember what it was?

It was Bright Squares, our second theme of 2021. I did enjoy that theme but must admit I am not feeling quite as bright today. You see I need to own up to something. . . . .

I have somehow deleted my Squares Logbook!

I do recall tidying up my home screen but didn’t think I had actually deleted any items. I guess though I did as I cannot find the log anywhere. It is one of more visible examples of my grief fog. Very frustrating; so I am going to distract myself with our first theme 2021 theme. It was SquaresUP; when we didn’t just look up but found words containing up.

Thank goodness for these ‘uplifting’ squares as they have helped me get over the loss of my logbook and inspired me to track down, with the help of my galleries, most of the bloggers who joined us for the first time in 2021.

2021 was a fabulous year for new squarers and also our extraordinary Square regulars and lovely infrequent returners. We even remembered the past with our squares.

I really hope I haven’t missed anyone who squared between 2017 and 2021. If anyone can’t recall being in a Who’s Who or thinks they are recorded in the wrong Square Retrospective, do let me know. Mix ups are possible. If you joined us in 2022, that annual review will follow in April.

For now though let’s keep celebrating 2021, there were so many Squarers. It was a good year to be Square thanks to great themes, including the very popular trees .

Do hope you are able to spend a moment or two this weekend visiting some of the 2021 new squarers. It is good way to get us all back in the habit of Square Galleries, so we are all ready for the next Squares in May! Although as you all know there is really only one habit you must follow to be part of the Square Gang.

Your main photograph must be Square!

    1. Exactly, need to focus on the positive 😊

And yes you were in spam, weirdly though they only appeared here today. Hours after you commented. Think the WP gremlins need chocolate!

  1. Oh my goodness, you are so organized and am so sorry the logbook accidentally got deleted! So happy you’ve been able to still gather up info on most if not all the past square folks. I’ve missed the square challenges, but knew someday they would return and am so excited to be included and to join in with the square post themes and FUN!! ❤️ I thank you for all your dedication and work you put into the square challenges. Sending warm hugs and love from across the pond!! ❤️🤗💞

    1. Yay about May, and yes you are right about 2020. I’ve just added you to the Who’s Who. Sorry you weren’t there before, I think it’s because your blog name & url changed so I couldn’t find your active blog. Now sorted 👌

  3. Great photos and looking forward to studying the photos for technique and inspiration. Would love to share one of mine but don’t know how to copy and paste in this box 🙁

    1. Was stored in cloud, and it seems after 30 days those backups are recycled too. A lesson learnt about cloud storage. 🫣 There’s a paper version, but it only goes up to 2019 plus in storage with all my furniture and other belongings! 🙄

  5. Brilliant Becky, so glad to see squares are back. I think I must have joined in 2022 as I don’t appear in the other galleries. Anyway hope to contribute to the May Squares.

      1. Busy is good, and you can do all the prep in April. At least mum will be there in the anniversary month. You will be deluged with responses so it will be a very busy month!

  6. As far as I can tell, I joined in January 2018 and continues through all the following years. That’s what my “posts” files tell me anyway. So you can add Serendipity – Seeking Intelligent Life on Earth for those years.

  7. I was with you from 2018 through whatever the last year was. I’ve got the post. Many were re-posted in January and February when I was in the hospital and Rich took over finding posts. I didn’t even have wi-fi, so I didn’t even know what was being posted, only that it was mostly photography. But from 2018, I was there. Not every single day, but most days. I still use a lot of squares 🙂 I got fond of the format.

  8. You have been in a grief fog and I had a broken heart in the most literal sense. I actually don’t remember when I joined. No idea. I know I was there for some years, but I’ll have to look and see what I’ve got.

  9. This is so great to see, Becky and how nice to see that squares is back in May! I think I’m in the original 2017 list. Sorry to read your document disappeared. Ugh.

I do have a question as to what block you used to publish your list of linkers in that format. I like how it looks and saves space. Happy Easter and I look forward to your squares theme in May

    1. You are indeed a member of the original Square Gang 🙌

And it is lists in columns – create the columns first and then you just add a list block to each column. Bit fiddly initially but if you create often then you can save the whole block as a custom block at the end. Hope this helps

  10. Oh, Becky, I so fondly remember Septimus and those gorgeous Square Morning Reflections. Like Anabel says, I too am amazed that you created a logbook but, after all, you are the Queen of Squares and a logbook sounds like the perfect approach to keeping tabs on the ‘who’s who’. Looking forward to Squaring with you in May 🥰

  11. Oh, how frustrating to have lost your document. I imagine you have checked the trash / recycle bin?
But you have very detailed galleries. Being one of the original squarers I look forward to seeing what you have in mind for May.

    1. I have, but my recycle bin has a 30 day limit and I think I did it about 3 months ago at the height of the house stress and reemergence of intense grief. So so annoying, but I am sure I will have fun creating an even better version going forward!

  12. Well, I could have sworn I was part of the Class of 21. But it turns out I was a Lockdown Newbie and joined in 2020. I remember it was fun chasing down suitable shots during Daily Exercise. So glad you’re beginning again. All good clean fun!
