Most of October was dry and warmer than usual, and November so far has also been warm, just not as dry. I had been thinking it must be another sign of climate change, apparently though that’s not the case. These high temperatures are one of those weather phenomenons we sometimes get; the jet stream has moved. Having said that every month this year has been warm which does suggest things are changing, and the research also indicates that warmer and wetter autumns are likely to become the usual here because of climate change.
These warmer autumnal days have meant many of us have used less energy, which has been a huge positive given the rising energy prices. The downside, well Squares is probably not the place for a lengthy climate change discussion. So instead I’ll mention the impact on my walks. I have spent ages some mornings trying to work out what to wear and when to walk so I don’t overheat, don’t slip over in the mud and don’t get soaked. This was one of those complex decision days, and fortunately I got it right!

Have you got caught in the rain recently, or have you also been avoiding the rain? Do share your walks with me. I’d love to know what you have been up to. To share simply link back to one of my daily posts and don’t forget to use the tag #WalkingSquares.
I don’t mind hiking in rain, but mud is no fun. Where I live, it’s been unusually dry for while now. We’d welcome more rain just to green things up. Here’s mine today: https://grahamsisland.com/2022/11/12/abstracts-mysterious/

Tree overhangs are perfect for avoiding the worst of a deluge 🌳 Mine today is from a rare dry morning 😂 https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2022/11/12/a-short-walk-after-work-walkingsquares/

I am always a day (or possibly two) late with my squares. It was wonderful weather two days ago but yesterday and today it’s grey. They call it “high fog” (is that a proper English expression / phenomenon). What it means here in our area is – it’s grey and dysmal but you know that if you had the time and the inclination you could get into a car and drive up in the hills and as soon as you are 200 or 300 metres higher, there is sunshine. If my husband is willing, we’ll go for a drive (and a walk) later, if not there will be grey photos tomorrow.

It’s been hit and miss in the southwest this past week as well and certainly not cold.

I certainly don’t enjoy rain as Jo does but after the rain it is lovely to feel and smell the freshness. Today I’m thinking about trees https://somerville66.blogspot.com/2022/11/walkingsquares.html

ah that’s probably because she doesn’t get much these days now! Totally agree with you about the freshness smell 🙂

It tends to look like rain more often than rain actually happening. A lot of grungy skies just now.

A lovely, shot, Becky, the evidence of rain is very clear, I’ve done well on avoiding it so far, but the clothing choice is definitely more of a challenge these days, and I usually have a variety of options in my backpack!

And I’ve gone for a nighttime walk today – heading to Farringdon Station https://travelwithintent.com/2022/11/12/an-evening-stroll/

I rarely do a nighttime walk but do like them when I do

Yeah I do the same when I am out further afield but when I pop out for my daily stroll I rarely pick it up. I really should as like you lots of options in it.

It has been warm and rainy here as well. Still well above 10 C during both the days and the nights. In 2016 we had 30 cm of snow in early November…
