I have had so many Square ideas swirling around in my head including horizon, signs, opposites, seasons and joy. All have their merit, and I know all would be fabulously transformed by yourselves into squares. So it is more than likely at least one of these will appear in a future squares. However for July I fancy a change from a word with multiple meanings, and there is one word that won’t leave my head.

That word is trees!

We had such fun with roofs and flowers, I thought why not try squaring trees. They can, after all, take centre stage in your square or as they were on Tuesday and again today they can be the backdrop. Maybe you could start with one tree and increase the number day by day until you get to thirty one trees, or maybe you could focus on just one tree and share a different part of the same tree each day. They don’t even need to be real trees!

Other tree ideas include squaring a different species every day, photographing their shadows or even hugging one in your local park. I’ve counted up the trees in our garden, and could easily square, although maybe not hug, a different tree every day in July.

Hopefully by now you will have realised from my tree ramblings it is totally up to you how you include trees in your July squares. Some of you may recall from a Portuguese tree post I shared a year or two ago, I have a thing about trees. No wonder I can’t wait to see your trees. However if a daily tree square sounds daunting, it is okay to join weekly or even just pop in occasionally with your trees. The frequency of your squares entirely depends on you and your blog. The only absolute rule for joining in with Squares from 1st July is that your photograph must be square in shape!

  1. A lovely theme! Two more weeks before vacation, then I will go hunting for tree to square. I think I might have some already, but not sure they will accept to be square 🙂

  2. Well, as you know from your research in the Glasgow Coat of Arms, the tree that never grew is part of it, so I might be able to wangle a Glasgow angle. If I have time. VERY occupied with mum at the moment, she had a fall 😟.

    1. A Glasgow angle be incredible IF you have time, but won’t expect it. Far more important you focus on Mum, and look after yourself. Hope you’re both doing okay after shock of fall. Sending hugs and get well wishes xxxx

    2. So sorry to hear that Anabel. As Becky has said, focus on your mum and look after yourself. I know only too well how distressing and stressful this situation can be. Sending hugs (( )) xx

  3. Interesting. We’ll have to see how many trees there are in Premià de Mar – if we ever get there. I might be otherwise engaged than blogging, however. Possibly 😉

    1. You will get there. You have to get there. You just might not get back for a while!!

And I’d be worried if you were not otherwise engaged 👶👼

  4. I have been planning to use the photos from our recent Central Queensland road trip in the next squares challenge and there are plenty of tree photos in that collection. They probably won’t always be the primary focus of the story but they’ll be in there.

    1. Oh I’m so relieved there were trees on the trip, and was hoping to see this road trip. And no worries about them not taking centre stage, even a hint of tree is sufficient for squares!

  5. May have to do some archive diving for this one, Becky, as the desert isn’t exactly full of trees. But I have plenty time to think about it and see what comes to mind. 🙂

  6. I love trees and it has been ages since I added to my tree series. This could be a good topic to rejuvenate the flower blog, though I do have several gardens in Somerset to write about first! The difficulty could be in squaring them, but I shall try and be creative.
