Whenever I walk in a London street,
I’m ever so careful to watch my feet;
And I keep in the squares,
And the masses of bears,
Who wait at the corners all ready to eat
The sillies who tread on the lines of the street
Go back to their lairs,
And I say to them, “Bears,
Just look how I’m walking in all the squares!”

from A.A.Milne’s ‘Lines and Squares’ 1924

Have you guessed? Yup, this is my square announcement for October.

Easy to avoid the bears here

Don’t worry the theme isn’t bears, or lairs or even London streets, although you could if you wanted to as October’s theme is same as the title of the poem ‘Lines & Squares’!

However I am guessing not many of us will have the chance to avoid the bears in London’s squares this October so instead I thought we could be delighted with lines. They can be long, short, straight or narrow. Natural, wavy, singular or in stripes. Contoured, grooved, curved or divided. Or maybe you’ll be inspired by a line of poetry, a sequence of events or a course of action. Whatever the line you decide to take, just remember your main photo must be square.

Yikes how do I avoid bears!

I am hoping we are going to have as much fun with this as we did with blues, and look forward to seeing you back here on 1st October with your #lines&squares. In the meanwhile please be aware the next two weeks are impossibly busy for me what with birthdays, weddings and of course the festival, so I might be a bit erratic with replies to comments.

And since I wrote this post I’ve lost a much loved and amazing sister in law. The funeral is next week, so could be days before I reply to comments, however I have scheduled lots more ideas before squares commence so please stay in touch. Take care everyone and remember to walk in the squares to ensure you are not eaten by the bears!

  4. Family sadness is some times a surprise some times expected. Always a period of sadness. We are expecting some in my family as my Dad is slowly leaving us. But life goes on.
    Looking forward to lines/

      1. Thanks Becky. I already have a couple of shots lined up. I’m trying not to end up like July Squares when I had a few blue squares left over at the end of the month.
