St John’s the Baptist is the oldest parish church in Winchester, and is first church (or last depending on direction of travel) on the Pilgrims’ Way.

It is also one of the venues for the festival I’m organising, and the festival is the reason I must give my apologies to everyone who has left a comment or a pingback over the past 48hours. My Winchester voluntary life has taken over this week as I rush round trying to get everything done. Things are slightly better today, but then it all goes topsy turvey again at the weekend. So please do bear with me a little bit longer. I promise lots of collations in July 🙂
There is something very reassuring about an old English church building. 🙂

A very square roof, indeed! I’ve used a church roof, too: https://picturesimperfect2.wordpress.com/2018/06/27/jelly-bag-cap/ and had a hard time finding the English name for such a roof looking like a Zipfelmütze. I hope jelly bag cap is a really the right word for it.

It’s a fabulous description. Not a phrase I’ve heard before though. Not sure what our equivalent would be. Beanie maybe or a Wee Willie Winkle hat?! Jude would probably know.

According to Google translate it is a stocking cap- so yes, Wee Willie Winkie fits the bill. I see you used Winkle – a typo?

Oops!!! Yes a typo, was trying to do too much this morning. Thanks so much for investigating 😁

In Europe my husband couldn’t pass a church without photographing it. Oh look a church. He would like Westminster.

Lovely church – and seven roofs too! Maybe June is not a good month for a daily challenge for you! Much as we enjoy it, perhaps a rethink? Anyway I have a very different roof for you today. Only in the USA 😀

Not sure any month really is!!! But I agree this June has not been brilliant time wise.

Great to see this lovely shot of Winchester, with big and small roofs.
Good luck with your hectic coming days.
I’m in London for today’s roof: https://travelwithintent.com/2018/06/27/stay-a-while-in-leadenhall-market/

Sometimes the fact that New England has the same place names as Old England confuses me and I think you’re talking about OUR Winchester … then I look and I say “Oh, right. THAT Winchester.” Wonderful old church!
