It is believed that shadow puppetry theatre originated in Central Asia-China or in India in the 1st millennium BCE, but unsurprisingly given how long it has been around no-one is 100% sure of its origins. It certainly feels like another lifetime when I came across these ones in the Museum of Childhood.

I am squaring daily and mostly focusing on dark shapes, silhouettes and reflective shadows but you don’t need to do the same! The dictionaries highlight that shadows can also be an illusory image, a remnant of a thing, an imitation, an inseparable companion and of course partial light. The frequency of your squares can be whatever suits you and your blog. The only thing you have to remember is to stay square with your November Shadows.
Those are so unique!
I have architectural shadows for today: Now We’re Half Through November Shadows | Out of My Write Mind

Interesting art pieces. I’ve never seen a marionette show or puppet show, but good to know they’ve been around for so many years.
Here’s my entry:

These are excellent, Becky. Never seen them in person but I remember them being quite dramatic, from an old movie. Here’s mine today: https://grahamsisland.com/2025/11/15/pallid-ghost-crab-3/

it was the first time I had seen them, and was enthralled by the amount of detail on them

These look Balinese in style. I’m catching up while we’re having a restful afternoon after disembarking our ship this morning in Civitavecchia, Italy. 🙂

We’ve been walking around 9 to 10km a day, up, down and all around so it’s been nice to have a quiet afternoon.

I love puppets, although those aren’t the kind I usually see. But they make great shadows. 😉. I’ve also gone back in time today.
