Gnomes, in England at least, generally wear red (phrygian) caps. As Brian or Graham would probably say it is a little gnome fact!
Some claim the red cap is because of their connection to nature and earth, whilst others believe it is a symbol of their pride and rebellious nature following the vegetable patch riots of 465 AD. All I know it makes them easy to spot in a Californian forest.

The theme for July squares is ‘‘Simply Red‘ and whether you gnome square daily for the rest of the month, weekly or just the once, your main photograph must be square.

I confess, I would say that! Good to see that gnomes are popular in California. The was a gnome reserve near where I grew up in Devon. That closed, but the colony relocated to a garden center not too far away. Here’s my square today: https://grahamsisland.com/2025/07/18/tail-light/
