If I recall correctly this is part of Josh Kline’s Climate Change installation, and this room explored the impact of climate events on communities. The couple in the video had been immersed by floodwaters, and if you look carefully you can see the screen is in an inflatable boat. This was a full immersive experience walking round; art wise didn’t do much for me but it was an interesting exhibition and certainly made a statement as well as being my reddest square yet!

We need to be on RED alert

Whilst I have your attention can I mention a bugbear and that’s the pop up subscription boxes! I think I might be seeing red over them because they have been everywhere as I have been preparing our first #SimplyRed gallery as well as playing catch up over the weekend. It has felt like every other blog has it at the moment! So if you haven’t already checked your WP blog do take this moment to go to ‘Newsletter Settings’. You will find it listed in the main Settings menu on the Dashboard. Then could you unclick the one that says ‘enable subscription pop-up for commenters’. Everyone will still be able to subscribe especially if you click instead ‘add a floating subscribe button’ but at least they won’t get a pop up after every comment. I might today leave a #PopUp tag as a PS on every post where I come across it over the next day or two so at least you’ll know!

  1. Becky – I liked the image – and regarding the pop up – I am so glad you addressed this – because it is annoying and I think I recently turned mine off (so I hope you did not encounter it when you came to my blog – please let me know if you do – and I have at least one more simply red post to join in with – maybe two or three (keep you posted – ha)

I think a recent wordpress change was to make the POP UP happen by default and so people do not even know that their readers are getting it – and have to click continue reading – before they can leave a comment. And some of the POP UP BOXES do not even have any words and so I just click in the white space where the words should be and it lets me through.

I am glad you are trying to raise awareness about this –

      1. Thanks for the reply – and one little note –
it was hard for me to find the “yeterday post” with the pop up –
well not that hard – but it took some clicking and I wanted you to know – because if we really want people to go into their settings and unclick the pop up subscribe box, it might help to get to your info post quicker –
so maybe then added the #pop up tage you should add a link to your actual post.

For me, I saw your “pop up” in the comment – and so I clcked on your gravatar – which took me to the portugal blog, and I could not find the link to the squares challenge there (but I did have fun looking around that blog – it reminded me of years ago when I first encountered you in blog world – and I remembered your pretty smile and that wonderful dress in your feature photo) – anyhow, I went back to my post and simply clicked on my simple red tag – and it brought me to the squares post I had linked – and then I had to click the main menu on that site and look for the post with the pop up page.
        All very easy –
but thought I would let you know
because it might be easier to share the link to the post with your “#pop up” tag – even if blogs have comments with links held for moderation – that could help more to ensure they see the post.

in closing, I wanted to mention again that I am glad you put in the effort to help people unclick the pop up – becaise it annoys me when I join in the Friday Fictioneer writing challenge. I do not visit as many blogs as you do with the #squares, but it is so annoying to have to do that while leaving comments – and it is a waste of electricity and data it adds to the digital world.
