PS I know it is obvious and I am not sure what these ‘Moors’ would say about my choice but it would be remiss of me . . . . . .

That song is so perfect! I wonder if these ladies dance?

some of them certainly can, but they only came together as a group for Mardi Gras

What an interesting photo! The costumes are lovely but it’s interesting to see what the women are carrying! Was it part of a ceremony of some kind? And where?

It was in Portugal – Mardis Gras. The local villagers and townsfolk all create floats every year and this was what one group came up

It’s certainly a wonderful, eye-catching photo, with the bags, cigarette and sunglasses. Here’s mine today: https://grahamsisland.com/2025/07/14/royal-poinciana-tree/

Like Elke I thought they were wearing face veils at first. You must tell me more about why they aree dressed in red like this. A unique one for squares I think. And I quite like that song.

It was part of Mardis Gras – this particular village always likes to include something historical or satirical. This particular year historical, a reflection of when the Moors ran Portugal

I can’t view the video (not allowed where I am) but I love the photo. The contrast between the outfits and the bits of modernity, like the cigarette and purses, is fun also.

What fantastic costumes, and perfect for your theme! I’m not a Chris de Burgh fan and especially not that song, so I’ll pass on that thanks 😀

ah no it was a Chris de Burgh song. The women were part of a Mardis Gras float in Portugal a few years ago
