I was making a few comments and that sometimes triggers being sent to spam. Silly really as people often have a session responding to blogs, and obviously not the amount a bot can make. Anyway thanks for rescuing me.
Looking forward to seeing all the red next month. I will try to keep up, but will be travelling a lot during July and can only hope that the wp gods will behave during that time. 🙂
We would love to do a narrowboat trip one day. I’m so excited to get started on Tuesday and I’m amazed at how many photos I have from our Antarctic trip that have a touch of red in them. 🙂
It’s all down to the canal size. So narrow boats had to be created because so many of the canals are too narrow for barges, and in some cases length 😉 matters too because some canals have short locks!! Narrow boats are less than 7ft wide, broadbeam are 10 to 12ft wide and then barges can be over 20ft. You’re glad you asked now aren’t you 😀
And some of those staircase locks can make a steep climb. I’ve also seen inclined planes, where barges get hoisted up a slope. There was one near where I used to live in Cornwall.
That barge looks ideal. If it’s called a barge?

this one is a narrow boat rather than barge as it is less than 7ft wide, however we do have barges on this canal too

I think I have got all my ducks in a row!
(BTW your ‘My other blog: Becky in Portugal’ doesn’t have a link to the blog. Not sure if that is deliberate or not.)

ooh just found you hiding in spam; those ducks must be misbehaving!
hmmm I thought I did, maybe I’ve hidden it. I will go and have a look shortly.

A lovely (local?) scene. I’m getting my act together, and have a folder of likely subjects for next month’s red bonanza!

I would love a long boat adventure regardless of the colour 😀

oh no not you calling them long boats too – only just trained my cousin not to call them that!!

Are they canal boats?

yup – although we tend to say narrow boat or barge depending on width of the boat.

Oh my goodness. Here comes more confusion for my befuddled brain. Do barges just carry cargo and narrow boats people? Does canal size matter lol

I am actually. I love the boats and canals. Near where I stay in Paris is a lock and I used to be happy when a boat came along 😀

you need to visit me and a few minutes walk away you can sit in a pub garden and watch the boats all day

The nice thing about walks by a canal is there are no hills! I’m on red alert for next month’s posts!

Very true, although must admit I do like it when the tow path switches over and you have to go under or over
