I spotted ‘Text Textile LinquaFranca One’ over Christmas when I visited Modern One in Edinburgh. The galleries are only a short walk from my Scottish family, and so I often pop in when I am visiting them. I had meant to explore Modern Two after Anabel had written up about it last month. However I never made it there as I got caught up in Modern One exploring the fascinating work of Everlyn Nicodemus in her first ever retrospective exhibition. I will be sharing more of her work in a few weeks.

Oh wow, Becky, this looks worth exploring. I guess the exhibition is over and done with though? I’m in an exhibition space myself today, of more permanent kind: https://margaret21.com/2025/01/15/geometry-in-two-greenhouses/

Textile art can be very interesting. There is an exhibition coming to the Tate St Ives shortly which I must try and get to.

I’m always interested to see textile arts and this looks an interesting piece, as well as being perfect for your theme this month! I threw a few geometric squares into my latest post, though you’ll have to skip to the end to find them! https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/a-walk-below-the-sea-level/

Much more to my liking than yesterday’s art. I went to an exhibition on Monday night – the annual winterlights in the Luisenpark in Mannheim. If it hadn’t been for some glühwein towards the end, my camera finger would have frozen solid! My fingers hurt so bad. This is one of the geometric designs on display: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2025/01/15/one-circle-does-not-make-a-bird/

We’ve still to go to that one. It had just opened when we visited Modern 2 and if we hadn’t had tickets for an exhibition at the other side of town in the afternoon we would have visited. I think it’s on for another few months so we’ve got time.

she does some fabulous work, although there are warnings before you go in as some of her work is a bit disturbing. I will share more though after squares

That does sound heavy going Becky

much of her work is a commentary on life and the trauma and subsequent recovery she has experienced because of racism and patriarchy. So that is heavy, but there is plenty of joy too
