The Pérez Art Museum acquired this abstract composition in 2021, forty years after Lydia Okumura, a Brazilian artist, created it. I was fortunate enough to see it when I was in Miami last year.

Using acrylic paint, painted aluminium sheets, cotton string, charcoal and pencil, it projects from the wall creating a three-dimensional space.
Previously it had been shown at “Women Geometers“, a group exhibition curated by Piero Atchugarry Gallery to celebrate the work of twelve Latin American artists known for their Geometric Abstractions.
As you have probably gathered I like it!
I also think it is perfect for January Squares.

If you haven’t yet squared this month, why not join us today or at the weekend. The theme is Geometry and as long as your image is square almost anything works. If you cannot join us today then no worries, as;
- this daily challenge remains active until the end of January but you can post as frequently or infrequently as you like in the month
- it is also totally up to you whether you pingback via your post or add your link with a comment on one of my daily square posts. Both approaches work.
- it does though help me enormously if you use the tag GeometricJanuary
- And apologies if I’m slow with comments and pingback approvals today, I’m out and about until this evening
How very fascinating, Becky ! Enjoy your day…and here’s my post for today: https://suejudd.com/2025/01/14/geometric-industry-3/

Yeah but if I fall too far behind I then end up spending too many hours on the computer!

Not quite my cup of tea but it doesn’t have to be.
I’ve got a different shape today, a circle in fact. Circles have been quite neglected so far, possibly I remember a full month of circles a while ago – my first square month, in fact 😀

you’re not the only one, but as you say we don’t have to like everything. I have a feeling though I am going to love your circles – be there shortly. Lots to catch up on after a full day out

Oh that’s super. It’s refreshing to have an all female focus in maths.

that’s what I thought – and looking back over my month of squares and at the ones yet to come I seem to have included a good proportion of females . So glad to see I am beginning to focus on finding women creators

This one is intriguing. I like how it changes when you look from a different angle. I’ll be linking to this post for 15th and 16th.
