However if you are going to take part in Squares in January then you need to abandon any rectangles that are not square!

Mathematical equations, but are they geometric?!

As of 1st January the Squares gang will be sharing shapes, spaces, lines, and anything that they consider to be geometric. So I am expecting a huge range of squares, as not only is geometry one of the oldest branches of mathematics but it is used by animators, architects, artists, astronauts, astronomers, carpenters, cartographers, designers, engineers, landscape gardeners, navigators, scientists, urban planners, and . . . . . well everyone really.

You are all invited to join the squares gang next month. You can post daily, weekly, or whatever frequency suits you and your blog. You can link to other challenges as I have today but unlike today your image must be square!

The tag is GeometricJanuary and for those that like to prepare; the url structure will be GeoSquare.

Squares of LA’s downtown library will be appearing next month

PS I am on a train again today, this time travelling back home. I might be able to connect online as I did last time but more likely I’ll be catching up with everyone tomorrow.

  1. This topic is giving me flashbacks to high school. Very disturbing. I actually took Maths A level and passed, but only because I skipped the aspect I’d been studying for two years and answered probability questions instead!

    1. yeah I don’t have that fond memories of my Maths A level either – no idea why I attempted it although I did manage to get a pass grade too

  2. Algebra and especially Boolean algebra give me nightmares! Where on earth did you find this picture? I have been working on my squares, but whether they fit into the geometric category I shall let you decide 😊

    1. Anything goes I have decided for geometry!

These equations were outside the library – no idea why or what they mean. Do you recognise the algebra then?

  3. What a great theme, even though I’ll need to really study my photos for some geometry. Or look for it to take interesting photos! Safe travels home and have a good New Year! 💞

    1. I am going for the geometry behind what I have photographed, so it won’t be that evident in some of the photos! And you know me as long as the photo is square . . . . . .

  4. I much prefer geometry to algebra so I’m looking forward to joining in at least a couple of times in January 😃 I already have an idea for my first post for this theme!

  5. Bonne route, Becky. I shall be spasmodic on the first few days of January, since we’ll be travelling and I am hopeless at scheduling links: I always get some detail wrong. Do you know what that equation signifies? No, me neither.
