If you are wondering why I am suddenly sharing lots of American posts, well the fabulous Jude has been encouraging me to write up my trip.
Today, I thought I would tell you about a wonderful exhibition that my friends and I stumbled upon in Miami. We knew about the art gallery – Pérez Art Museum – as it was one of the reasons we had chosen to stay where we did. The museum was only a few minutes’ walk from our hotel, and I’d heard it had an excellent cafe. One of my friends treated me to both my ticket and lunch, and it turned out to be an amazing treat.

The museum wasn’t too big nor were its walls and floors overcrowded with its modern and contemporary art, it was perfect for a bit of pre-lunch culture. We fell in love with so many individual pieces, and I’ll be returning to those another day. Today, though, I want to focus on a solo exhibition. It is one of those exhibitions that has you stopping in your tracks, both by the message it is portraying and the artwork itself.

It felt as though that your hand would actually go into water if you touched the painting, and as for the people. Wow! Extraordinary works of art.

I absolutely loved it as did my friends. I really hope Calida Rawles has more solo exhibitions around the world so you might to get to see her art in person too.

How wonderful to come across this exhibition. The first two are quite fabulous. I’m glad I gave you a nudge to share your trip. ❤️

They are my favourites too – and very grateful to you for the nudge especially now it looks like I will be travelling across the pond again next year and so need to share these stories before I have more!

Those are indeed lovely, and the panel explains her motivation well. I often photograph a picture on the squint, if it makes it easier to get it all in or if it avoids reflections. So I quite understand!

Those paintings are amazing – both beautifully executed and powerful in their message! I will definitely look out for her exhibiting in London in the future (I see Margaret has already saved me the trouble of Googling to see if she is now – sadly not).

Calida Rawles is a name I’ve not come across, so I thought I’d Google her to see what I could find of hers in the UK. Nada. What a shame. There was an exhibition in which she was included, in London a couple of years ago. That’s not much help! But what powerful works these seem to be, even when not photographed straight! Thanks for the introduction.

Big shame – here’s hoping that one day one of the British galleries will exhibit her again

Ah, I was about to check but I’ll rely on your research Margaret! Let me know if you notice her here before I do, and I’ll do the same 🙂

👍. Though I woudn’t rely on me for anything much if I were you. I only took 5 minutes!

I want to reach out and touch some of these. Great art is often born of human tragedy and there’s no shortage of that, sadly. These are awesome paintings.

I know you have to watch yourself constantly don’t you to make sure you don’t touch!
