Telling you all that I have been struggling a little has helped so much. So thank you all for your kind words. Yesterday was a much better day, and today feels like it will be too; even though plans to see family today have had to be cancelled because of the storm warnings. Things were so good yesterday I began getting my squares lined up for January.

I had hoped this brilliant geometric sculpture would be in the January collection, however the daft photographer (me) didn’t take a shot that could be squared! So instead, here is a rectangle.

Sculptor – Okuda San Miguel

For those wondering about the mention of geometry, it is the next Squares theme.

We’ll mostly be looking for shapes and lines, or anything geometric that has been created by animators, architects, artists, astronomers, carpenters, cartographers, designers, engineers, landscape gardeners, navigators, scientists, urban planners, and . . . . . Well everyone really as this branch of mathematics seems to be part of everyday life.

The Squares challenge returns on 1st January, and as long as your image is square you can post daily, weekly, or whatever frequency suits you and your blog.

The tag is GeometricJanuary and for those that like to prepare the url structure will be GeoSquare. No number for day one, but day 2 with -2 etc. Oh and don’t forget you also have to do the correct date!

  1. Glad you had a good day despite the weather. This would be a great squares photo apart from that one small detail. In general, when I’m taking photos, I try to zoom out for at least one or two photos to give myself some cropping options, but it only works if I remember that intention!

    1. Thanks Graham. Glad not just me who forgets. I was so annoyed with myself for forgetting that intention, I gave myself no room for play with this shot. I was convinced I had taken multiple photos, and I had of other pieces but this one . . . . hey ho!

  2. I’m glad you are bouncing back Becky, one never knows what awaits us each day. I can find tears welling up for all kinds of reasons. And I haven’t even started to look for squares.

My poor garden is suffering today, the trees and shrubs are being whipped around in every direction.

    1. The triggers are so unexpected aren’t they some days. A couple of weeks ago it was buying Indian pickles that set me off.

Was wondering if it was affecting you too. Did you get the red alert? I didn’t, I am only in the yellow zone not even amber. So goodness knows what it is like in red.

      1. No red alert. Just amber, but it has been extremely windy. It was awful overnight, sounded like the roof was coming off! Thankfully not.

  3. It’s great to hear that you’re feeling better today! That photo would have been good for the geometry squares theme but it also works well as an ‘advert’ for January 😀 I’ll probably post just a few times as usual, depending on how many photos I can find, so apologies in advance for (probably) ignoring some of your rules around urls etc!

    1. I so wanted this one to be in squares, but when I squared it I lost far too much. I should have taken a shot further away – hey ho!

No rules about the url, that’s just for those who like to prep well in advance. A few squares sounds perfect to me

  4. The picture is awesome. Me likee very much! And I REALLY like the title that Anabel has bestowed on you: Queen of Squares!

I’m happy to hear that you are feeling better.

Thanks for the square heads up – it’ll give me something to do “between the years” (that’s what we call the time between Christmas and New Year’s) provided I can sit long enough at the computer. Now that I have a name for what plagues me, i.e. sacroilitis, it doesn’t make it any better.

    Keep mending!

    1. I have no idea what the Queen was thinking. Was dismayed when I was going through my photographs as I didn’t even get the whole sculpture in the rectangle. The only thing I can come up with it the humidity didn’t just cause my hair to go wild, it addled my square eye too!

  5. I share your thoughts you shared with us. I keep on getting asked by friends ‘how ae you” and never sure how to answer or what to say… in truth, it is a case of one day good, one day bad. The trouble is I am not sure what triggers the good good and the bad bad. I guess you know what I mean. I always try to smile…I think it helps 😄

  6. That’s a stunning piece of work, Becky, square or otherwise, and I’m glad you have Squares to focus on. It’s easy to say ‘one day at a time’, but a day can be endless. There are days when I seem to be surrounded by people who’ve lost a partner, or shockingly, a child, or sudden terminal illness, and you wonder how people cope. You do an amazing job and I hope you can be surrounded by friends and family at this difficult time of year.

  7. I’m sorry to read that you have been struggling, but grief and the holiday season seem to be a package deal for many. Plus, your crazy weather isn’t helping.
As to the geometric designs of that photo subject, it is amazing!
