Tomorrow morning I am going to be travelling on another railroad out of Portland to see two special people. So today, in their honour, I thought I’d post a railroad story from last weekend in Truckee, California. I stood in the middle of a rail track; first I looked east and then I looked west.

Posted for Cee’s Which Way.
A tantalising couple of shots and full of promise, Give my good wishes to Cee and Chris. Hope you all have fun together.

It was amazing to see them both, and their town is so lovely

Oh, that’s good to know – about the town that is. I’ll respond later to your message.

Great views from the middle of railway lines, so long as there’s no train coming.

Yeah I wouldn’t risk it in England too many trains!

You’d be hard pressed to stand in the middle of a railway, here, unless it was a country town. Glad you got the opportunity.

yeah isn’t easy in the UK either, and in the UK generally far too many trains to risk doing this!

It won’t be so mesmerising when a train appears. Images with lines heading to the horizon give them so much depth.

especially given the size of the freight trains here!
It almost looked like a movie backdrop to the east.

Those American trains are huge.

Goodness, definitely need to be sure it’s safe to stand there!

fortunately I knew I was a good 20 minutes before the next train

Railways make such great leading lines shots, as long as it’s safe to stand on them like this!

yeah definitely wouldn’t risk it if trains were coming but this was a railroad crossing, so I knew I’d get plenty of warning plus I knew the next passenger train wasn’t due for 20 minutes and there would be no more freight for at least an hour

Sorry I didn’t call in the end. Unexpected grief waves hit me as I walked into the hotel. All fine this morning, so will ring this evening
and so glad you love this shot 😀

Not very busy!
And it looks remarkably similar to when I was there over 30 years ago.

oh my goodness you have been Truckee too?! The other side of the tracks has been gentrified since I was last here 10 years ago, but other than that you are right almost the same as it was 30 years ago.
