It is not the first time I have shared a photograph from this day for a Squares Challenge, but on the previous occasions my attention was focused elsewhere – once on the timing, another on the wavelight and most recently on the perspectives.

Today though I am counting!

Now as long as you can count to seven I am pretty relaxed about how everyone interprets the theme and the rules are also pretty flexible;

  • it is a daily challenge but many are posting every 7 days (obviously) and a few plan just one square and a couple of other Squarers are working on seven posts for the month.
  • pingback via your post and you may also want to add your link with a comment on one of my daily square posts.
  • please do use this month’s hashtag SevenforSeptember.
  • and remember the one non-negotiable – your main image must be Square in shape!

I am travelling by train for more than twelve hours today (or tomorrow if you’re on Californian time like me), so please be patient if I am slow approving pingbacks and tardy with regards visiting your squares. And do check your spam folders regularly as I have discovered that because I am doing major catch ups before and after travelling days the WP gremlins are often hiding my comments in spam.

    1. it was a wonderful journey, and actually in quite a few places the train track is closer to the ocean than the road. We couldn’t even see the road for a couple of hours.

      1. Yes, the trains are slow! I drove that route a long time ago, in reverse (SF to SD over four days), and loved it although the weather was shockingly bad! It was fabulous following the PCH and I only wish I had managed to do the SF to Seattle drive too.

        1. I learnt on the train yesterday that some of the road is now closed because of cliff collapses and landslides. Just hope same doesn’t happen to train track as that is even closer to the ocean than the road in many places.

          I have driven from Redding up to the Oregon border and that was fabulous, and I might do some of the Oregon coastline when I drive up to Portland. Not decided on route yet

      1. yes arrival times always add an extra concern. But you’re well organised so it will be fine. And I’m looking forward to hearing all about it. I’ve only ever done that route by car.

        1. You are so right I have organised an uber already although actually thinking of cancelling it and booking once I arrive as this route is notoriously late running. Got though until this evening to make that decision

          I’ll take plenty of photos 😀 so looking forward to doing it

        2. yes probably best to do it just before arriving. Make sure you do it before arrival so you avoid the price peak that will happen when everyone else gets off and tries to book.

        4. In the end I didn’t book a few minutes as forgot to hit confirm, but no change on price. Most people heading for SF get off in Emeryville as I was stop before – usually only a 10 minute gap between the two stops but last night the Emeryville had to wait another hour so I made the right moves all round!

  15. The only train trip I took was at the end of the 8th grade. The class took a trip to Kansas City. Don’t remember anything about it except it was fun! What a wonderful way to see the country. I’m sure your camera is capturing every mile of it.
