A few years ago Robert and I decided it was about time we explored what remains of Arraial Ferreira Neto. It is now a posh hotel in the east Algarve, but was once a tuna fishing village. We had been fascinated by the Algarve’s fishing heritage ever since we had visited Praia do Barril with its tuna fishing anchors. It is a life that, like the tuna, has almost completely disappeared from this part of the world. Fortunately though there are a few remaining photographs, films and as you can see below models that offer a glimpse on what was a very challenging way to earn a living.

If you look carefully in my header photograph and also the square above you will spot a few sevens in the maze of nets, steel cables, anchors and boats, and it was these sevens that originally drew me to including this square in this month’s challenge.

It was only after re-reading one of the boards that I remembered this fishing trap, called an ‘Almadrava’, could be about seven miles in length.

Have you found something completely different yet for #SevenforSeptember?

    1. I do like to share, going to be even more important for me now Robert isn’t here to chat about things afterwards. Have really noticed that today as today was my first full day on my own.

        1. exactly – today is one of those challenging days. Seen and learnt so much today that I want to discuss with him and that’s combined with nerves about tomorrow’s journey. Not easy, so have headed down to my hotel lounge for the sound of company, and it’s helping a bit 😀
