Months ago when I first decided on the theme of Seven for September I found this photograph in my archives, and thought brilliant this will be perfect as not only did I take it 7 years ago but it has seven arches – 3 curvy and 4 pointed. Then when I was squaring it last Sunday, I realised I had missed the other three arches. Oops!

Now I know it could still be an official square as I took it seven years ago, but the miscount put me off. However I wanted to still share it with you as it brings back happy memories of the first trip Robert and I made to Lisboa, and our explorations of the city’s incredible water heritage. So here it is as a Squares prequel.
This Squares reminder also enables me to join in with Debbie and the Six Word Saturday gang. Now Debbie’s rules are simple your title is six words only and you post on a Saturday. My rules are almost as simple;
- the theme is Seven (7)
- the challenge begins tomorrow and the url structure for those who like to prepare will be Seven-Squares. Tomorrow will have no number at the end but day 2 with -2 etc etc
- you can post any day in September – I will be posting daily, others will be posting every 7 days (obviously) and a few might post just once and a couple of other Squarers have said they plan seven posts for the month.
- it is totally up to you whether you pingback via your post or add your link with a comment on one of my daily square posts. Both approaches work. It would though help me if you could use this month’s hashtag SevenforSeptember.
- as you can see pretty relaxed rules apart from one absolute; your main image must be Square in shape!
PS if like me you have been frustrated by the subscription pop-up box that appears every time someone leaves a comment I have discovered how to turn it off. Go to ‘Newsletter Settings’ which you will find listed in the main Settings menu on the Dashboard. Then unclick all of the boxes – but especially the one that says ‘enable subscription pop-up for commenters’.
Newsletter settings thingy – now done – I hope!

If you wanted to be really pedantic about it, you could also include the nine tiny windows in the bridge!! But I agree with all the others, the seven arches are the main structural elements and I had to look again to see the three on top. Anyway, it’s a nice lead in to September. I’m excited to start on our UK trip with my daily squares posts. They won’t have seven of anything in them but they are all about our seven weeks in England and Wales – pushing the boundaries a little as per usual. 🙂

Oh, and thanks for the tip about the settings. I’ve changed mine now. It’s been driving me crazy when I try to comment on posts on blogs I’ve followed for ages and suddenly I have to keep logging in again. I’m assuming that’s what you’re referring to.

Ah not sure if it will resolve that as well 🤔 as this is more about the pop-up box after leaving a comment. However it might sort it as the WP gremlins are weird

Awww thanks 😊 and always good to push the boundaries. Can’t wait to enjoy your trip

Okay. Gotta ask. Does this mean that the picture has to have seven of something in it? or is it seven linked photos (presumably all squared)? If there has to be seven things in the picture, I don’t have much material. I’ve actually been squaring a lot of pictures anyway, especially birds and flowers which seem to work out well in a square format, but not much else. Please, if you can, let me know?

It is totally up to you – could be 7 linked photos or there could be 7 things. It could be a photo you took at 7pm or in July – more ideas in post 🙂

The ones on top aren’t part of the 7 and I didn’t even see them until you mentioned it. So glad the challenge is on!

I think it has ben said already that this photo would have been fine, but anyway it is a nice way to lead us in gently. And thanks for that final tip, I have altered my settings now and I will definitely include that tip on a few posts once September is over. Or include it in my response to a comment on sites that have it enabled (I guess we all do as it seems to be the default). See you later!

thanks, and that’s a clever idea on leaving it in comments

I’m with the others, you absolutely could have used this as a ‘seven’ 😀 But it made a useful prequel and reminder for us all. I’m away a lot in September so I’ll probably post just the once – maybe seven squares, maybe more …!

awww thanks, and enjoy your travels – if you manage seven squares that will be fabulous bu no worries if not.

I agree with Anabel and Graham. Don’t be pernickety. All arches are not equal! I don’t think I’ll post every day this time. I’m thinking seven times maybe?

Don’t worry I will become less pernickety once the month begins!
And seven squares spread throughout September sounds a wonderful way to get involved – can’t wait to see what you do, and also hoping that in the month after squares you might be heading south so I can see you in person!

It really isn’t . ‘Pernickety’ is in the OED and many other dictionaries! ‘Persnickety’ however is only described as a N American variant.

Quite! But I’m a properly pernickety person when it comes to Dictionary Issues.

It’s seven arches Becky. The ones on top don’t count! And it’s still two days away here. Stop rushing me!

I don’t think the ones on top count. Just ignore them!
Also, thanks for that final tip. I had never looked at newsletter settings before, I probably thought they were about creating an actual newsletter, but have now turned off the subscriber pop-up. I hope more people read this and do the same because it’s a very annoying feature! I get it at a lot because I follow most blogs through Feedly so am not an official WordPress subscriber.

I almost did ignore them as I thought the same as you but knew there would be someone somewhere who didn’t!!
And likewise too on that pop up – maybe I should keep mentioning it or send it to everyone who has the pop up

Yeah, I might add it to my next post too.
