Storks are great at reconstruction. I talked about it at length five years ago when a pair took up residence opposite our dining room, and had to go to battle over their nest which they had recently had to reconstruct.

Now this pair, who you can just about spot below, were our pair’s nearest avian neighbours, and by the looks of it have been reconstructing their nest for years.

Grrr, there are only 2 days after today

If you have not joined in the fun of the Squares Challenge then you have until Friday to share photographic squares that are Burgeoning, Move Forward, Reconstruct and Renew.

  1. Amazing birds! I watch two little birds outside my computer room window ledge. They like to climb on the screen. (the window screen – not the computer screen..lol ) What is amazing is that they come back year after year.
hmmm I just pretend they are the same ones.

  2. Running out of time! Where did May go? I hope you’ve enjoyed it because you’ve certainly made a lot of people happy. I do love our storks and their improbable homes.

  3. I was fascinated by the nests in Portugal and spotted many along the Danube as well. Caught one in flight, which was cool. It must be a pain if they build their nest in your chimney.

    1. ah they seem pretty sensible and only choose the abandoned ones. And where there are few chimneys or trees the community puts up special poles for them to build their nests on.

  4. In Sweden there is an ongoing and successful project that started in 1989 to reintroduce wild Storks. So now there are quite a few storks nests around every year.

    1. oh that’s fantastic news. They have started a project in the UK, wouldn’t surprise me if the people doing that here have come to Sweden to learn from your successes
