Storks are great at reconstruction. I talked about it at length five years ago when a pair took up residence opposite our dining room, and had to go to battle over their nest which they had recently had to reconstruct.
Now this pair, who you can just about spot below, were our pair’s nearest avian neighbours, and by the looks of it have been reconstructing their nest for years.

If you have not joined in the fun of the Squares Challenge then you have until Friday to share photographic squares that are Burgeoning, Move Forward, Reconstruct and Renew.
Antepenultimate is a great word for trying to distract us from realising we are nearly at the end, Becky! Love those storks in their precarious nest, would be great watching them. Here’s my offering for today: https://suejudd.com/2024/05/29/may-squares-29-roses-burgeoning/

So glad you love the word too, I think might be first time I’ve ever used it.
One of these days you might see storks near you, given how successful the UK’s White Stork project is progressing

Even if I didn’t like the whimsy shown in the juxtaposition of the bulldog and the nest, I’d love “antipenultimate.” ❤️🥂
I’m moving forward today as we, unfortunately, move forward towards the end of the month. Also unfortunately, I won’t be able to be doing this in this place this summer. (Lots of “this’s”in that sentence.). But as my husband likes to say, “it is what it is.”

The storks and chimneys connection is so interesting, as is the idea that this nest offsets the chimney’s lean. It must be fun to watch them year after year. The last of my florals this time: https://grahamsisland.com/2024/05/29/mauna-kea-silverswords/

I always wonder what they did when these were all working factories.

And of course, where they nested before chimneys!

Wow, what a huge nest they make! We have a small nest of Phoebes under our patio cover–so cool to watch them be fed and grow!
Adding some florals since spring is fully here in Eastern Washington. I have really enjoyed sharing for your squares theme this month, Becky and thank you for providing such wonderful inspiration with your latest squares challenge. I believe it did us ALL some good. Take good care of yourself!

They do seem to choose the most perilous positions.

I guess they like being up high.

True that about storks. If the surrounding area provides, they will not abandon a nest.
