When preparing for any Squares Challenge I always type the theme words or their synonyms into the search function of my online photo albums to see if anything comes up. And for this month I was almost inundated with ideas when I typed in reconstruction because of my habit of photographing information boards at historical sites!
I know I know this photograph isn’t square, but I had to include it because of what is written and there are squares in this post!
You don’t actually need to read the information board though to spot that this magnificent castle and its impressive forty metre high keep has undergone significant reconstruction over the years.

The archway in my header and gallery below is Roman and the keep itself dates from the 14th century. They just kept adding to the castle as the approach to defense and attack changed over the centuries. There have also been modern repairs.

Robert and I enjoyed looking around this castle in Beja, but as you may know from my original Portuguese post I didn’t make it to the top of the keep – Torre de Menagem.

By the way I will be offline most of tomorrow as I am moving into my next temporary home. Then next week is also very busy with other stuff. So there will be some days when I might be slow with my square visiting, but I will visit. So please keep squaring!
An impressive place and interesting how they’ve done the repairs. Good luck with your move. Here’s mine today: https://grahamsisland.com/2024/05/03/crimson-medinilla-2/

that is very true, I need to investigate more of them!
And yes it is. Looking forward to being there, although also going to be very strange not having Mum’s company
