This was taken on one of those walks I hadn’t planned, I just let my feet take me. It is something I do quite often now. One of the many changes in my life since my world turned upside down in April. I suspect everyone on this train had planned their journey.

Are your walking routes planned or do you just follow your nose? I guess it depends on why you are walking, and reflecting on the variety and fabulousness of your #WalkingSquares there are multiple reasons for your walking journeys.
I’ve never lost that childhood ‘There’s a train coming!’ excitement either. 🙂 When walking locally I often aim for a plant or plants as I said in my post, so it is half wander, half planned. On a longer journey, Felder is happy to travel without a hotel, and book one wherever he finds himself, but I would rather know where I’m staying.

glad it is not just me who cannot resist looking at the trains.
If I am flying somewhere I always like the first night or first couple of nights booked, but then I am up for seeing what happens!

All depends! If we “go out for a walk” we might have a plan. And if I’m just doing my daily steps, I might follow my nose – I’m quite good now at gauging how much I need to add on to the route to make up the required number.
An old favourite today, which I’m doubling up with Jo.

it is amazing isn’t it now we get to know how many steps we have done or still need to do

It is, lots of practice though!

I love the shot. And keep up the unexpected. That’s my idea of walking x

Thanks Debbie – was a bit nervous when I took it as it is a one way bridge with no footpath or traffic lights and some cars just rush across

Although it can be good to have journeys to look forward to I don’t enjoy the planning at all and would much rather get up and go somewhere at will. Today I wish I was by the sea https://somerville66.blogspot.com/2022/11/walkingsquares-round-weymouth-harbour.html

Following my nose is what I do best, Becky. You never know where it will take you.

For us it depends on the situation. If we’re doing a bush walk there’s a route to follow but if we’re exploring a new town we just go with the flow. Either way it’s a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

I would say most of my solo walks are planned; I’m generally covering large distances & out for hours. I’ve got to decide on which lenses to take, is Lensy coming along & think about water & food, & of course, the weather. My local walks, however, are a lot more varied & it is usually a case of deciding which way to go when I reach a fork in the path 😃 Here’s a shot from one of my planned walks: https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2022/11/28/down-at-the-canal-walkingsquares/

that describes the approach Robert and I took when in Portugal 🙂

Not many rail journeys these days can be planned, it seems. Our next one is strike-prevented. Let’s stick with walking: https://margaret21.com/2022/11/28/the-way-through-the-woods/

oh no, a London trip?

Yup. Our ‘Official Christmas’ with Teams London and Spain, before Real Christmas. So we’ll take the car. You know what’ll happen. They’ll refund our out-bound journey, but say ‘Well, you could have come back by train’. …

oh no, that’s so frustrating – and bonkers about the refunds.

I don’t know that this will be the policy. It’s just an informed guess.

oh well hopefully you will get a full refund. In the past when I applied for refunds because of issues I got both journeys but never had to apply because of strikes.

In the winter months I must admit my walking routes are planned though it has been known on a sunny day to change direction!

I have this inability to walk randomly
I have to walk from point A to point B! And also know the length of time I’m going to walk! Very boring

Not boring at all, all of us find comfort in whatever approach we take.
