No matter where I end up, getting outdoors helps. Some days it is so hard to open that front door, but the walking apps weirdly help me get going, A kind of walking buddy, I guess. Audiobooks also assist. I am borrowing them from my local library via an app on my phone, and they stop me thinking too much on the walks. Thoughts easily spiral as I am still in the early days of grieving. An unexpected side effect of listening to the audiobooks is that sometimes I don’t think about where I am walking and my feet simply take me places.

This cemetery was an unexpected third of the way point, and resulted in a 6 mile walk around Winchester as I then took a weird way home to avoid retracing my footsteps and too many people. The cemetery is now closed for burials, and is a favourite walking route for university students. It is also a site of natural and historic interest, find out more here.
Alternatively why not explore the comments below, chat to a fellow squarer and maybe find another square or two. They were so many lovely WalkingSquares yesterday, thank you to everyone who joined me on a walk or left a comment. Can’t wait to see what you share today.
Tried the walking App that you mentioned but then the rain came. Oh well, better luck next time. Here is my somewhat walk for today.

thanks Cee, and especially for the comment about photo. I am struggling a bit with using phone camera but am not ready yet to take out camera. So good to get some nice feedback 🙂

Phone cameras are pretty good these days, but yes you need to learn how to use them. I’m only sorta of good with mine 😀 😀

Great to see Squares, Becky! I missed yesterday and only just got going today, and revisited a wander in Krakow 6 years ago, and a view of an old Jewish cemetery…entrancing: https://suejudd.com/2022/11/02/wandering-about-krakows-jewish-quarter-walking-squares-2/

October was a beautiful month this year weatherwise, wonderful but also a tad worrying

It’s good to see squares are back 🙂
I’ve never listened to an audio book, I think you would have to find the right voice to fit the book

Yes I have given up on some because I didn’t like the voice. Generally though they work. Well worth trying on a long journey

Funny you should say that my friend listened to The Dutch House by Tom Hanks and said it was so good but I had already read it

Audiobooks are my companions, too. Even on the bike (one ear only!).

Very wise – I use headphones which don’t go in either ear which means I can hear everything around me as well as the book. They are very clever

Becky, Six mile walk is impressive. Keep up the good work. If you listen to podcast, I’ve been listening to Anderson Cooper (on CNN) ‘All There Is” podcasts on loss and grief.

I love to wander through the older cemeteries especially those that have been naturalised, there is something calming about them. I have never listened to audio books for the simple reason I can’t bear to have anything in/over my ears. I enjoyed listening to books read on the radio when I lived in South Africa (no TV then) as I could get on with other things. Today I have another unexpected photo from yesterday’s St Ives stroll.

exactly that on older cemeteries 🙂
and you should try my headphones – they don’t go in or over ears. They are bone conduction headphones, and are brilliant as it means I still hear the world around me

Ooh, never heard of those. I shall look them up.

Mine are called Shokz – not the cheapest but work brilliantly. After Robert bought me mine, he got himself a set and then bought them for the girls too!

Libraries have such a wide range of ebooks and audiobooks, that I’m sure anyone who only remembers libraries as they were decades ago would be amazed. It’s a great idea to transform the cemetery into a chalk downland meadow – I’m glad you have it to walk in.
