No matter where I end up, getting outdoors helps. Some days it is so hard to open that front door, but the walking apps weirdly help me get going, A kind of walking buddy, I guess. Audiobooks also assist. I am borrowing them from my local library via an app on my phone, and they stop me thinking too much on the walks. Thoughts easily spiral as I am still in the early days of grieving. An unexpected side effect of listening to the audiobooks is that sometimes I don’t think about where I am walking and my feet simply take me places.

This cemetery was an unexpected third of the way point, and resulted in a 6 mile walk around Winchester as I then took a weird way home to avoid retracing my footsteps and too many people. The cemetery is now closed for burials, and is a favourite walking route for university students. It is also a site of natural and historic interest, find out more here.
Alternatively why not explore the comments below, chat to a fellow squarer and maybe find another square or two. They were so many lovely WalkingSquares yesterday, thank you to everyone who joined me on a walk or left a comment. Can’t wait to see what you share today.
I absolutely loved the idea of listening to audiobooks, but I can´t do that while running so it´s better when doing lazy weekend walks.

Six miles is impressive for a daily walk! That would be a special effort for me. I generally try to walk for at least an hour, that’s probably about 3 miles I think.

I’ve pinged you, but just in case, here’s the link.

It did work! I am only just logging on now as a challenging morning and then busy this afternoon seeing my counsellor, hence no pingbacks appearing before

Yes that’s my daily goal 3 miles 🙂 the six miles was an extra special day. Has been one week though when 6 miles was the daily minimum, the hips soon complained!!

A beautiful spot, Becky. I enjoy audiobooks too. I like them when walking without Inka, and I use them in the house too – good when ironing, or cooking. I like having an audio copy of whatever I’m reading in hard copy so that I can continue the tale, whatever my hands are doing!
And I’m back with a walk in the opposite direction in Margate, this time west from the town centre: https://travelwithintent.com/2022/11/02/walking-past-margates-havana/

Fabulous, had an inkling you might like them. I also use them at night to send me off to sleep when I wake up at all hours – have a couple of books I listen to again and again. Less the content and more the voice of Stephen Fry – he;s very soothing!

We used to do that with Rachel when she was a child. She just didn’t sleep and once tired my own reading would turn into gibberish, so books on tape were the solution!
I saw you saying some voices don’t work and I agree. I usually buy mine on Audible and you can return them no questioning if you don’t like them.

love it, does Rachel still listen to them?
and yes I was using audible but now having to really watch pennies so library it is. Means I am now trying far more but also I have returned so many because of the voices!

It’s great that the walking app is really helping and you’ve found a lovely way to help clear your mind. I’m working on a couple of posts which I’ll publish soon.

I’ll not join you daily with a link, darlin, but I’ll pop in every day to read the others. Audiobooks sound like a good idea. And it’s not a bad thing to exhaust yourself walking. Better than moping at home. There’s always time for that.

Yet to be exhausted by a walk, even after the long ones I come back on a high!

I need a distraction too but more so when I am driving the half hour to town. I have music playing and if I start thinking too much, I turn it up and sing along 🎵😁 I love exploring cemeteries. We live just down the road from one and it was a safe place to ride bikes and play with friends 😀😀

Now why does you singing not surprise me!!
There seem to be a few of us cemetery lovers 🙂

It looks like a peaceful place. Beautiful with all the trees. Mine today is from a walk in the forrest from earlier this autumn, where I ended up on the ground trying to capture some colourful fungi 🙂
