A brand new photograph for today’s Past Squares and one I took only a couple of weeks ago when I was in Taunton, Somerset. The outskirts of the town may be a traffic nightmare but in the centre you find yourself stepping back, or even spinning into the past.

Thank you to everyone who has left a comment as well as a pingback on my square posts. Conversations with you make the challenge so much more fun, and I love visiting your pingbacks. They, along with the #PastSquares, also help me create our Square galleries
A lovely, peaceful photo of times that were much harder than we often think. 🙂

This reminds me of the Open Air Museum at Singleton where they film the Repair Shop I have found a bust I saw at Silves castle a few years ago https://lizannelloyd.wordpress.com/2021/10/08/past-squares-8/

Just think, all our ancestral mothers (prior to the factory system) would had to do a lot of spinning like this. I also love the different layers in this photo – foreground, house interior, and view through the back door/window – a metaphor to match your title.

Looks fantastic 👏 Not been to Taunton for many years now (Used to visit the UK Hydrographic Office a lot when I was in the Navy). Here’s mine to chase away the rain: https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2021/10/08/remembering-a-bright-summers-day-pastsquares-oct-08/

The traffic is a nightmare there these days, and the town is changing. They have lost Debenhams and so not sure how the centre will survive 😦

My eye went to that beautiful wood frame of the house. How narrow the door seems! I wondered if it might be to keep the cattle out, but you’d think the staircase would do that. 🙂 Here’s mine for today:
