Last month I was stepping back into the past for Heritage Open Days, and occasionally I remembered to take a photograph. This is one of those rare camera moments, when I was in the middle of a fascinating tour of St Swithun’s School in Winchester.

Designed by architects Mitchell & Bridgewater in 1929, the original plan for the school consisted of a quadrangle of buildings. However the school ran out of money and so the full plans were never implemented. Whilst on the tour I wondered if the reason they ran out of money was the quality of the building. The drainpipe you can see in the header is gilded in gold, and so would have been sparkling when the building first opened. Which neatly takes me on to which themes I could have shared this new square under – well obviously this month’s Past but I was also thinking it would have worked for Lines, Perspectives, Circles & Squares, Time, Up, Top, Bright and Blue. What do you think?
If you can spare some time, here’s a lovely podcast revealing more of the school’s history.
It’s a spendid building and looks particularly fine under that beautiful blue sky.

What a wonderful building, Becky. And the sun certainly helped create a beautiful image of it. Even though never fully completed, it looks well care for.
I’m still finding lines in Sicily: https://travelwithintent.com/2021/10/06/a-curvy-constant-pi-archimedes/

Suspect the school fees help maintain it!

The podcast sounds like a treat for later. What a fine building. My offering are a bit distressed today. Past their best even … https://margaret21.com/2021/10/06/theyve-all-seen-better-days/

Here’s mine – I hope they stay squared. I’ve looked back at a few of my posts and they didn’t publish as previewed, very strange

It must have sparkled then! Great combination of past themes. Mine is blue today, but would also fit flowers. 🙂
