On day one of Past Squares I mentioned that I was planning to share previous theme squares that either hadn’t had much attention over the years or had had lots of attention. This one, of a telegram room in Porto, had lots of attention as it hosted a gallery. It first appeared in January 2020 when we were enjoying words containing the word light. I thought I’d share it again as I rather like it.
I have heard stories from my parents about how much integral a telegram was back in their childhood, when my grandparents and great grandparents relied heavily on it for sending and receiving messages to relatives and friends faraway. There’s a certain charm attached to it, if you know what I mean.
In this digital age, that charm is either long gone or rapidly diminishing away every passing day.

My parents had them for their wedding day, such a lovely way to commemorate occasions. I still have a few of the ones they received, and others my grandparents received over the year. Wonderful and, as you say, charming things to have

I like those different planes in you photo – the balcony, the window, the table with the exhibit, and the lamp. Wonderful!
My light square was yesterday, today it’s lines (I’m moving alphabetically): https://picturesimperfectblog.wordpress.com/2021/10/05/lines-square/

I loved this photo the first time round. Good to see it again. The light is so soothing and the layered silhouettes so pleasing. I’m doubling up with Lens-Artists in today’s offering on the square past/past square front:

awww Tish, what lovely detailed feedback. Thank you so much. I have wondered whether I should try printing this. Maybe I will
And loving your very thoughtful piece this morning, we could learn lots from our ancestors.

Big grrr – when i visited Porto a few years after i took this shot, i went on the tour again. I was with a friend and knew she’d love the palace, and part of me was hoping I might have more time – but oh know that tour guide whisked us round even faster 😦

I meant to say that your square today is really effective, nice light and almost monochromatic with small splashes of colour.
