An ant probably thinks the flower is a tree!

I probably should have shared these thoughts right at the start of the challenge, but learning from previous Square months there is always at least one fabulous person who joins us in the final week, so hopefully these thoughts will still be useful!

When I was preparing my Squares this month, MrB and I had a discussion about what is a tree. Wikipedia states that ‘In botany, a tree is a perennial plant with an elongated stem, or trunk, supporting branches and leaves in most species.’ Whereas Collins says ‘any large woody perennial plant with a distinct trunk giving rise to branches and leaves at some distance from the ground’. Which raises the question in my mind at least, when does a young tree become a tree?!

If you are one of those fabulous persons who have yet to square a tree you have until Saturday to create your square post with the tag #TreeSquare, and don’t forget to include a pingback to any of my daily square posts in July. The only absolute rule though for joining in with Squares is that your photograph must be square in shape!

  1. Trees are the tall things to me, Becky, or the shorter things when they’re younger. If they don’t have much of a trunk / stem, then they’re a bush! 😀
I have one or two trees for you today:

  2. Seems to me like asking when a child becomes a person/human. They always are and so it should be with trees, I think. 🙂 And an ant could easily be excused for seeing a flower or a tall stem as a tree. I guess my entry could raise the question of when does a tree stop being a tree and become something else–wood, perhaps or…

    More than just lying there
