Now will he sit under a medlar tree

And wish his mistress were that kind of fruit

As maids call medlars when they laugh alone.—

O Romeo, that she were! Oh, that she were

An open arse, and thou a poperin pear.

Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet

Do you remember the medlars? I shared that sticky tale last winter and you may recall my take was about a very successful harvesting of Mum’s medlar tree led to the creation of pots and pots of jelly and cheese. Well this is what the tree looks like in blossom.

Don’t worry if you haven’t got any trees to share today, the penultimate Saturday of this month’s Squares challenge. You can instead create a six word title for Debbie and her 6WS. By the way are you intrigued about Shakespeare’s references to maids and medlars? Well look more closely at the shape of the fruit in my harvesting post, and then be imaginative!

    1. Hee hee he certainly was, but then I think those times were. And you are right about the meddling, but again Shakespeare liked meddling too in all his plays!

    1. Actually the bletting was the easy part! I am definitely going to have a go again this winter, learnt quite a bit from that first experience and the product at the end (well the jam) is well worth it. Cheese I was a bit disappointed with, but might try again!
