Now will he sit under a medlar tree
And wish his mistress were that kind of fruit
As maids call medlars when they laugh alone.—
O Romeo, that she were! Oh, that she were
An open arse, and thou a poperin pear.
Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet

Do you remember the medlars? I shared that sticky tale last winter and you may recall my take was about a very successful harvesting of Mum’s medlar tree led to the creation of pots and pots of jelly and cheese. Well this is what the tree looks like in blossom.
Don’t worry if you haven’t got any trees to share today, the penultimate Saturday of this month’s Squares challenge. You can instead create a six word title for Debbie and her 6WS. By the way are you intrigued about Shakespeare’s references to maids and medlars? Well look more closely at the shape of the fruit in my harvesting post, and then be imaginative!
A beauty, and some fun and cheeky words from Mercutio.
And a great six words 🙂

I did not know medlars had blossom & fruit 😲 Drew inspiration from your yarn bombing yesterday for today’s post: https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2021/07/24/a-yarn-bombed-bench-treesquare/

Is the move in the offing? And have you still got jam left? It’s a striking bloom. Happy weekend!

Don´t think I have ever seen a medlar tree before. They are not common around here.

they’re not common here either! Mum just asked the tree man for a selection of trees and this is one of the ones he included. I’ve decided I might get one when we move

They are such a lovely blossom, no scent though. I do wish I had photographed more of it, still always next year
