I am back in Portugal for today’s #TreeSquare as it is Friday, and I spotted another little something in my tree archives for Marsha and Cee.

I suspect the yarn is no longer in situ as I photographed this street art back in 2019. However it was definitely public art as it was all over this Mértola. Each tree had been bombed by a different parish, a reflection that many of the villages to the north and west of Mértola were once renowned for their lace making, their blankets and woven carpets. You can enjoy more of their crochet designs here.
That’s a pretty fancy yarn bombed tree! And bottles! Port I imagine. 😉

hee hee, more likely wine or a liqueur as it is Alentejo!

Someone certainly had a good time with that. 🙂 I wouldn’t think it would last well outdoors, but who knows?

This part of Portugal doesn’t really get bad winters, just very hot summers so may survive a while. Hope to get back there this year or early next so will keep you posted if we do!

Becky I love yarn bombing! We a college of art and design where students like to go the main park and beautify many trees.

oh that is amazing. What a brilliant way for the students to get their art into the local community

There are plenty of examples around here. It was such a craze a few years ago but not so much now. Lots have since gone, faded or are in tatters. Probable a good outlet for those who try knitting but fail. 😂

Nah even my failed knitting would be a disaster on a tree!!!

I must be around 40. I did tally them up a day or two ago but have forgotten what the total was.
