I am back in Portugal for today’s #TreeSquare as it is Friday, and I spotted another little something in my tree archives for Marsha and Cee.

I suspect the yarn is no longer in situ as I photographed this street art back in 2019. However it was definitely public art as it was all over this Mértola. Each tree had been bombed by a different parish, a reflection that many of the villages to the north and west of Mértola were once renowned for their lace making, their blankets and woven carpets. You can enjoy more of their crochet designs here.
I do love a bit of yarn bombing. A nearby town, Thirsk, always has some on the go somewhere in town: https://www.visitthirsk.org.uk/pages/yarnbombers.php. The art form that gets a mention in my post today is ceramics – oh, and architecture. There’s a tree or two in there somewhere.https://margaret21.com/2021/07/23/a-history-of-a-holiday-in-fifteen-trees-eight/

Does seem to be a Yorkshire thing – maybe the long and dark winters provide time to create!

This is not my Square Tree for today but I thought you might like to see the yarn bombing in Quarteira a few years ago https://somerville66.blogspot.com/2017/07/guerilla-knitting-in-algarve.html

ooh Jo was only mentioning Quarteira in her comment a few moments ago! Brilliant – I am off to enjoy 😀

I haven’t been up to Mertola in a long while but you can find random yarn bombing around the place. Often when you least expect it, but Quarteira had quite a lot at one time. Hopefully it makes the trees feel happy.

This one’s a beauty. Just yesterday we visited Warwick, about 45 minutes south of here. They have an annual Jumpers and Jazz in July winter festival, with all the trees in the main streets wearing yarn bombed jumpers. It was fabulous. I’m posting photos on Instagram at the moment but I’ll also post about it in August.

I got home from work and checked out the links you provided. I’m in AWE, so very COOL all the crochet work all attached to those trees!! What a lovely surprise as the fog lifted on that day!! 💜 And the Yorkshire link, so adorable and cute. Crochet tea sets and more!! I had no idea about all this crochet FUN!! Thank you so much for sharing! 🧶 💚
