Now this one came about as a result of me chatting to MrB in the final stages of preparing my trees. I thought it such a brilliant idea I changed today’s post, and it kinda of ties in with all the wonderful informative #TreeSquares so many of you have been doing. I have learnt so much over the past few days, thanks to all of you.

So who recognises this tree? For those who are not certain what it is, its purpose is to extend the life of a shoe. They are placed inside a shoe to preserve its shape, stop it from developing creases and help control odour and absorb moisture. A brilliant device and a brilliant suggestion for #TreeSquare as their name is Shoe Tree.

If this has inspired you to join us this month here are a few other ideas for the theme;
- Trees can be centre square or hidden in the background
- You could focus on one tree and share a different part of the same tree each day
- Or if you have lots of tree photographs why not square a different species every day
- And as you have seen today you don’t even need to share real trees! It is totally up to you how you include trees in your July squares.
If a daily tree square sounds daunting, it is also okay to join weekly or even just pop in occasionally with your trees. The frequency and content of your squares entirely depends on you and your blog. The only absolute rule for joining in with Squares is that your photograph must be square in shape! Although I’d love it if you also left a comment on my post, conversations with you make the challenge so much fun.
PS Did you notice I even managed to include the shadow of a real tree in my second square.
Very cunning!

He can be on occasion, and was so impressed by the shoe trees he retrieved for me. So posh!!

A shoe tree! How fun! That brings up lots of thoughts like cat tree. clothes tree, tree tree swing, hat tree, hall tree, tree house, Dollar Tree ( a discount store in the US). As with all your challenges, there’s so much more to them than meets the eye. So cool.

What a fantastic spin on your theme, Becky. And what a fabulous device, I remember the ones my grandfather had.

I had to find my photo. BTW, Chris knew they are called Shoe Tree. I had no clue until your post. 😀

ah she knows everything Chris 😀 or maybe you had another name for them?

I never knew they had the name tree shoe – but I do know what these are – and I think they are going to be rare to find one day – as plastics seem to be taking over or people just do not use them anymore

they look to be in great shape – but likely because they are made of cedar

ooh is that the case? Never thought of what wood it is

yeah – I think cedar – because it keeps moths and bugs out – and we have cedar blocks and nags with cedar chips hanging (way better than moth balls )
and I know some folks that line their closets with cedar – looks good –

of course, that all makes sense

A relic of his army days I think!

Perhaps they are more scarce because we have too many shoes. This is a classic pair.

I think you might be right, and yes very traditional MrB!

These are magnificent shoe trees! I guess we don’t take as good care of our shoes anymore. Most of mine aren’t even leather so go in the washing machine to get cleaned rather than the old boot polish and cloth!

Yes when I asked him to find them I was rather impressed just how fabulous they were! I think you are right, I think non leather shoes are the norm these days plus most of us can afford to buy replacement

You don’t see these much anymore….I remember my father used shoe trees in his dress shoes to keep them nice.
Fun choice for this post!

I wonder if it is because fashions have changed or whether a sign of more affluence, ie don’t need to take such good care of shoes as most can easily replace them
LikeLiked by 1 person
Probably a bit of both. Could you see using them in athletic shoes (lol)!
