It seems decades ago since I was in Hong Kong. Oh hold on, it was almost decades ago. I took these in April 2004, when you might recall we were just getting over the SARs pandemic!

I didn’t even know you’d lived in Hong Kong! How long were you there for? 🙂 🙂 It certainly looks lively and I can see you right at home in the markets there.

Oh I didn’t live there, just stayed for a few days en route to Australia. MrB though has lived here, in fact the youngest was born here 🙂

Ah ha! I thought that would have come out in conversation 🙂 🙂 I’d like to have visited too.

Glad I went when I did, only a few years after the handover. Think the feel will be quite different these days

Yes, but at least you’ve had that experience

That’s true 🙂 it’s a great place I found for a sole traveller.

We’ve only been to Hong Kong once and that was 1985. We would notice some changes if we went back these days.

Oh wow, you were there about the time MrB was living there. Biggest change you’ll notice is the airport. It’s now on a different island!

I went to Hong Kong first in 1967. It was fascinating but there was so much poverty. I returned in 1993 when my husband was working there & absolutely loved it. We’ve been back twice since for lovely holidays, but I am worried about the political situation there now.

I know the situation there is terrifying – now they have created strong alternative financial centres within China itself they are flexing their muscles over Hong Kong. Future is not great 😦

MrB lived there too in the 1980s, so many changes since then. When were you there?

Husband there from 1968 till 2004 and I met him there in 1989 and we emigrated to Australia in 2004. It was the best life, not that I’m complaining now in beautiful Perth. This Essex girl has come a long way 😂

What a great story, and fabulous journey. You left the year I came for a visit, and he definitely overlapped for the short time MrB was living there too.

Yes when you consider I was originally only going for two months!
