Even on a grey day there is something about just sitting still and watching the birds, whether they are in your garden, in the park or beside the sea. It is a great way to be uplifted for a minute or two, or even for a hour or three!

As regular squarers will know I am pretty relaxed about this quarterly challenge. You can join me posting squares daily or simply pop by as and when suits you and your blog. You can interpret the theme of up strictly, or let it take you somewhere random. Your photographs can be brand new or from the archives. It really is up to you! The only thing I do ask is that your photographs are square, and that means 4 equal sides. However even I occasionally add a rectangle to the mix, but only when it is in the minority!

I agree – just so uplifting. Great photos. My own Squares today barely qualify, except that I’ve provided a different kind of uplift: good books to read: https://margaret21.com/2021/01/03/six-degrees-of-separation-in-january/

Books are the best kind of uplift (after birds!)

Lovely photos, as long as they don’t fly overhead and poop on you. 😦

as soon as we all can fly again safely and easily, you need to come to the Algarve. We regularly see them here in the winter months

So true! I love a seaside walk and the chance to sit down and enjoy the birds by the sea. At the moment the only birdwatching takes place in my backgarden but hopefully I can get a seaside treat in the summer.

The RSPB agrees with you as it’s their emblem! 🙂 they’re such a beautiful bird. We’re so fortunate to see them regularly in the Algarve during the winter months.

Yes I was a voluntary warden on the RSPB’s Havergate Island for two separate weeks in the 70s when they first started breeding there.

I often feel melancholic if I’m walking in an area that is totally devoid of birds.

Likewise. One of the reasons we’ll not return to Malta, no birds.

Is that right? Have they shot them all? Is there nothing to see there at all?

Apparently they are still shooting which would suggest there are still some there but we were really struck by the lack of them in the countryside 😦
