I started with affinal kin in my original KindaSquare announcement and consanguineous on day one, so it has been rather lovely to see so many of you also sharing family portraits this month. There have been so many kind and beautiful faces, you’ve inspired me to share another relation, this time of Dad’s dad. Grandad was certainly kind, and I also remember he was very cheeky. He had a few things to say about this song!
By the way if you would like to see my header shot of Grandad with his parents and siblings click here. It is a lovely photograph of my consanguineal kin, and it would be shame to miss it if you didn’t come via the WP reader or my home page. I do like my theme but it can occasionally unkind to header photographs!

Love the hat! They had a strong tendency to dress children as little dolls in those days but he looks like he could be mischievous. Happy days! 🙂 🙂

I used to wear a hat liked that when I was in the Girls Life Brigade in the 1950s.

He was definitely mischievous, and think the outfit must have been hired from the photographer as can’t believe he ever wore this otherwise given his family’s occupations

Sadly, I have too many photos from late Victorian times I simply can’t identify. It seems pointless to keep them, but I can’t just throw them away. Make sure you label yours!

Don’t worry these all labelled, partly thanks to the habit of this family using photos as cards. It has their signatures on back 🙂 but I do have other nameless!

We should use \The Nameless Ones as inspiration for … something. Meanwhile, here’s today’s offering: https://margaret21.com/2020/10/19/a-new-kind-of-sightseeing/

I have put my unknown family photos on a Pinterest page in hope that someone might identify one https://www.pinterest.co.uk/somerville66/who-were-they/

Well, that’s a good idea! Any luck? I was on Pinterest for a short while, but I found it very un-user friendly, and I wasn’t sure it served any useful purpose for me – though I think it’s brilliant for some people.

Pinterest was very user friendly at first but not any more. No reaction from anyone else to my photos but it made me look at them again & work out who the little boy in Adelaide was. He died in WW1.

Sad to find that out, but it enriches your family story.

Just had a look at your photos on PinInterest – aren’t they fabulous. So much fun. Have you tried Ancestry for finding out who they are? If you put some of the family tree on, you could then see if anyone else matches to the tree – and if so then send them photos. Someone has just done that with me and I’ve been able to help tell them who people are

I have photos on a great many members of my public tree on Ancestry. One of my Irish photos was recently recognised by a distant cousin but we both know exactly who they were – brothers who were our great grandfathers.

ahhh thought you probably knew about that trick. Fingers crossed another one of these days . . . . .

There’s something special about old family photographs, especially when you know the people and their stories. Your Grandad was a cutie.
