Originally I had planned this as a three of a kind, but then I noticed one of the objects was a bean slicer not a marmalade cutter, and so when I cropped I took out the bean slicer. You can still see it though in the header. When I first spied these in the museum in Castle Cary I thought they were mincers, but as I got closer I realised they were something completely different. I had heard of bean slicers but was rather bemused by the size of the one in the museum. As the one we have is a tiny cube and goes in the cutlery drawer.
Marmalade cutters, however, were a first for me. Paddington though probably has one of these Victorian gadgets in his cupboard!

If you want to join in the fun of squares this month and discover fabulous photographs and/or obscure objects then you are very welcome. The only rule you need to remember is that your photograph must be square in shape. The October theme is ‘kind‘, and the trick is not to overthink it this month as kinda anything goes. Here are a few ideas to get you started;
- Something of the kind (similar to something or even a carbon copy)
- Our imagination kindled (inspire us!)
- Of its kind (a unique object or an example of something such as a flower or bird)
- Two of a Kind (or one, or three or multiple!)
- Kindred spirits (kindness in action or photographs of people)
- Take kindly to (something you like)
It looks as though beans and oranges were beasts of giant size and strength in days of yore!

This looks vaguely familiar – I wonder if my grandmother had one? She certainly used to make marmalade (and jams of every variety).

Marvellous. We used to have a mincer like that when I was a child. I’m back in days of yore today, though I definitely believe what the ancients said about the devil: https://margaret21.com/2020/10/07/the-devil-is-not-kind/ NB. This is a Block Post. Just sayin’ …

Can’t wait to see your marvellous block post, and I have a mincer which I regularly use!

They look rather fiendish! And, a bean slicer? You use this on a regular basis? I demand a photograph 🙂 🙂 But it’s a superb subject!

Hee hee, fiendish is the perfect description.
And photo will follow in due course, first though catch up on your fabulous square and others, then Pilates, then a meeting but then promise the bean slicer!

Does Pilates help the bursitis? No hurry, I’m off to croquet 🙂 🙂

I started Pilates because of my back and shoulder issues and it has almost fixed though. The hips benefit from Pilates movement but I have to be careful as it can also make them worse, a juggling act to find the right balance! Have fun with croquet

I didn’t know there was such a thing. I suppose machines like these are precursors to our food processors. I’ve scheduled my posts for the next week or so and linked them all to this post as we may not have phone reception.

What are the odds? Yesterday I saw a antique program on TV and they showed marmelade cutters. I have not of heard of these before. And here you are with two as well! 🙂

A marmalade cutter? A bean slicer? My block of knives is looking old-fashioned.

Hmmm….you have me thinking now about obscure items I have photographed. When I find something for the square challenge I now remember to change the settings on the camera to 1:1
I am sure Paddington does have one 🙂

I know 😦 I saw it in a second hand auction place but then again I looked again more closely to see if I could work out what it was. It was then I realised it was a speculum!!! Glad I didn’t post it :O
