We’re often encouraged to look at the bigger picture, but on murky days in the middle of a damp British summer and pandemic sometimes more beauty is to be found at our feet.
MrB and I though were so happy to be out walking at Danebury the other week, we didn’t really mind the weather. What is your perspective today?

Loving the close ups.A perfect place to walk. Essence of my oriental travels today https://somerville66.blogspot.com/2020/07/squareperspectives-day-24-dailysquares.html

It is a wonderful place when it is quiet, gets very busy though unfortunately

Looks like a glorious walk, Becky. And the dampness has added to the photos. Like Sue, I love the thistles.
It is getting hard to avoid the crowds everywhere now. I even got held up in bad traffic on M25 last night 😦

oh no, that’s not good. We have almost returned to normal haven’t we. Does worry me, and I can’t imagine what life is like for the thousands losing their jobs 😦

How wonderful to find a meadow with those flowers in it. 🙂 As you say, it’s the little things that are often more interesting than the bigger picture.

It has been a nature reserve for decades now, so lovely 🙂

And especially nice when there are no hoardes of visitors I would think. 😉

Thanks Denzil. Was so excited when I saw it. I had expected to see far more given we were in a nature reserve but either humans have found in the past or the wild(ish) horses like to chomp on them!

Oh yes. Lovely pictures, despite the damp conditions. Come to a normally busy tourist Mecca with me today: I suspect it may be nearly as quiet there as on your country walk: https://margaret21.wordpress.com/2020/07/24/building-a-cathedral-in-144-years/

We went back to Danebury again last Friday and it was no longer quiet 😦 whole of Hampshire out for a walk!

*sigh*. Yes, weekends are definitely best avoided, but Friday seems a bit precipitate.

We were a bit surprised, fortunately found a wonderful walk a few minutes away where there was no one.

In that case, I like the close look better as well (although walking in damp weather can have its own rewards…). Sometimes closer is not necessarily better: https://picturesimperfectblog.wordpress.com/2020/07/24/dystopian-perspective/

Intriguing . . . be there in a moment to see your closer

Very nice, Becky. The weather can make a dramatic difference to a photo, can’t it?

oh no 😦 every beauty spot seems to be disappearing under hordes of people. I guess because 6million are still furloughed.

Oh, that wild orchid is beautiful. Danebury is an unknown territory for me, but it looks lovely!

I was so excited to see it . . most of Danebury has grazing horses and so not many orchids to be found!
Danebury is a lovely nature reserve, and also (probably) one of the most studied Iron Age hill forts in Europe. The fort was built 2500 years ago and occupied for nearly 500 years!

Old indeed! I actually googled it to learn more as I didn’t recognise the name and was curious to see if the name had anything to do with the vikings. Couldn’t find any source for that though.

ooh good thought. No much older than that, but intrigued now about the name. Will see if I can found out for you
