As we approached I assumed the inspiration was a ship, I can see a prow (bow) from here. Apparently however Kengo Kuma was inspired by Scottish sea cliffs. So here’s another view from the cliff edge.

I was inspired by the cliffs of northeastern Scotland – it’s as if the earth and water had a long conversation and finally created this stunning shape.
Kengo Kuma

oh my is it already time for a week two review?! Where is July going?

I’m onboard with the ship impression. Actually, my first response was to feel sorry for the real ship in the photo, being overlooked by this. Is that its permanent mooring? Here’s my square today: https://grahamsisland.com/2020/07/13/ocean-sky-clouds-and-noddys/

Yes it is, and I agree is a shame. The real ship is RRS Discovery – built in Dundee, and sailed to Antarctica by Scott and Shackleton

Interesting. I wouldn’t mind touring the ship!

If you ever decide to travel half way round the world, well almost half way, head for Dundee then!

My late brother was an artist and lived in Broughty Ferry. He was so excited about the V&A coming to Dundee. He also sailed a lot on the Tay photographing dolphins. Thanks for posting this, it was lovely to see it.

Oh what a fabulous place he lived, and how wonderful he sailed on Tay. Such a great river. Do you have any of his work?

Yes, He painted mainly skies . His studio was right at the front in B Ferry, facing South. So fab skies from sunrise to sunset. If you Google Ken Bushe landscape artist, you’ll find him.

Just looked him up, and first images were of some of his sunsets. Stunning. Wow so talented the pair of you.
