Like red sky at nights, a sighting of magpies or blackberries after Michaelmas there are country sayings about Robins, particularly if they come into the house. For me though their friendly nature and bright redbreast are a sign of cheer whilst for others they are a winged messenger of solace.

That’s what I think . . we’ve got a very tame pair at the moment in the garden. Some days I can almost understand what they are saying to me 🙂

I never knew this (English? British?) superstition about robins. So I checked it out and for fun checked on German superstitions about robins. It’s funny that in German folklore the beliefs about robins are exactly the opposite to the English/British ones: it is considered a sign of good luck, and also contrary to the belief that it may be a sign of a loved one still lingering after death it is thought that robins portent change, taking leave for good of something. Go figure!

My husband once called to me. “Look! What is that bird that’s half red” He grew up In Southern California with very few song birds. Or no culture 🙊
