Snowy Owl at Hawk Conservancy Trust, Hampshire

Although maybe not this owl, as Snowy Owls are one of the heaviest owls. They have far more feathers than most owls. Partly because they have a wingspan of up to 5ft, but mostly because of the need for excellent insulation. Even their feet are covered in feathers. They are typically found in the northern circumpolar region but this one I photographed only last week at the Hawk Conservancy Trust. The Trust is now closed for the winter, but they re-open their doors on 8th February if you would like to meet some owls too.

    1. Amazing what words do end in light!! So glad you like this one, you should have seen how many ended up on the cutting room floor as it was behind a wire fence and so I was having great fun with wires and shadows!!

Hope you had a fabulous evening, and were not too tired by the time you got home. Such a great lunch yesterday xx

    1. Hee hee as long as you don’t put your arm out to the side you will be fine. If they see an arm out they assume you have a nice tasty morsel in your hand and land on it . . not sensible with their talons!!

    1. Owls are amazing, and so much fun to fly as they are so quiet when they land. And some of them are so tiny you don’t even notice them on your fist when they land . . . this one though is quite noticeable!
