I was going to say, who’s a pretty boy then until I read Brian’s comment. Maybe not so pretty after all. But blue. As I am sure Brian was.
Going floral again today for a change… well it is Floral Friday 😀 https://wp.me/p79zFr-257
So funny calling the Swamphen a chicken. I loved the comments. Not my favourite bird as Swamphens pulled out around 80% of the 1200 water plants we put in a wetland years ago. Love the photo Becky 🙂
Very unusual chicken bird you have found! 🙂

Yes – thank you, that’s a great post. Their call sounds creepy to me, enough to scare the duck away, too! 🙂

we still have not heard it in person . . most strange the ones we see are so quiet.

I’m glad Brian clarified the name – Swamphen – sorry to read they are pesky for the water plants!

They are an aggressive bird too. They even eat other birds eggs

Hmmm not sure these European ones are as aggressive as the Australian ones. These ones mostly eat roots.

Again not sure the European ones are as problematic as the Australian ones.

oh my your Australian ones clearly a problem. These Western ones are much better, although they do get through a lot of roots!
The Blue Chicken is their French name, we call then Purple Swamphens 🙂

Just been to your original post. What a haunting call. Seems a shame to call it something as sludgy sounding as swamphen 🙂

What fun! Don’t expect there will be many of them at the Lido! Mine too are also on the water, but you would hardly guess!
