Do hope everyone is enjoying this month’s theme of spikiness.

And remember it is not just spiky squares we are looking for, you can also be jagged, barbed, bristly, serrated, prickly, spiny, and pointy.

I was looking for a bush or tree with these kind of thorns but I haven’t found one yet. Very painful if you accidentally bump into these thorns. There are some species of birds that catch their prey on these thorns.

I was trying to get a closeup of our killer rose hedges, but unless I’m wearing heavy leather gloves and cutting them back, I keep away from them. They are worse than barbed wire. Maybe this year. From a distance.

Yikes, that does sound like a lethal rose. More of a thorned hedge with flowers, than rose hedge?!

Some kind of thorn tree? My ex mother-in -law used to get us to collect similar thorns in South Africa which she then used to hold together rolled meat or chicken for the braai. A tricky business! Mine is a little more normal today 🙂

I think so, and am also pretty sure it is from South Africa. The common name is Sweet Thorn.
